We were directed to this site as we were lost and couldn't find any RV parks in Waterford, this is a National Trust run area and the Reservoir is used for all types of water sport including shooting wild fowl. The pitches are all large/ level and grassed each has full hook ups & fire pits, the staff are all very friendly & helpful, make sure you take everything you need your miles from anywhere.Restrooms were a bit basic but useable.$25 per night all in.
Plenty of space for camping. Easy spots to bbq for day use. If Camping I would suggest bring umbrellas for shadw not ro many spots with trees and shading.
Used to be a nice lake to go too, now with the gangs and problems most local people wont go out there anymore.........weekends are terrible because one person thinks that everyone want to listen to their brand of music played through a cheap radio at full volume....I had one group of people steal the boards off our fence a few years ago and use them for firewood, called the park to report it and they said to bad they steal from us too........so at the end of the day the park service is to scared of the people they let in to do anything about problems.....
Great place to send a day, or camp for however long you wish.Easy access to the water, fun time for the family.
I have heard many times that people like Woodward Reservoir more than Modesto Lake (wherever that is). Since I live on the same road as Woodward, I used to go out there all the time when it was free. And haven't been there in a while, but driving by on the way to Jackson I know it's a beautiful park, and very popular. If you don't like crowds, you probably won't like it much. But maybe on weekdays it's quieter way in the back. Try exploring for better spots. I just wish it was free to get in for people who aren't camping or having a picnic. I like just going for drives sometimes with my friend. That would be a nice place to just hang out for a little while.
We went horseback riding out at this reservoir and had a good time despite the crowds. Every campsite was full and there seemed to be a lot of people, even though we were there at 7am. Trails are gravel, which can make it tough for horses but great for driving your vehicle right up to your campsite. Not very scenic, but at least the water is refreshing!
I spent last night camping. It was the dirtiest site that I have been in. The toilets were so disgusting that they were unusable. The campers were noisy with car alarms going off in the night. I really did feel uncomfortable there. The only redeeming feature was the pleasant staff at check in. You certainly do get what you pay for!
Woodward has fireworks on 4th of July. It is too crowded. Too ex-pensive and the day rate has also gone up. I am older now, so I do not enjoy going as much as I did when I was younger. I am sure some people are glad it is so close to home.
