This is one tough golf course. Lower your expectations and go out and have fun. The course was in good condition and we were able to get a last minute tee time.
Very enjoyable golf course. greens lighting fast. Staff very helpful. Very nice scenry the big rock out croping make it a nice course. If you are in the Rocklin area make Whitney Oaks one the courses you play. price very reasonably
I played here with 3 friends. Walter Hicks checked us in. He was so welcoming and helpful...the course was in good condition and in short...we all had a great time.We plan on returning soon..Only suggestion....bring lots of balls...go off the fairway means "reload"..... no I forgiveness....Mike
Love going to this location for the view of the golf course and free champagne with Sunday brunch. Breakfast is low to average now. Don't get the ham with breakfast. It's a big slice but dry and flavorless. It's more about the ambiance than the food.
It was a lot of fun playing on the fairways, but not on the greens - just too fast. Without a doubt, however, this is a well laid out and maintained course where shot making counts every hole. Whitney Oaks deserves to be on anyone's list of the top five courses in the greater Sacramento area. I also appreciated the staff's great courtesy in welcoming a stranger and pointing out the facility's fine features. The other reviews on TA cover the course very well. Unfortunately, there is one major drawback I must add - the pencils had no erasers. For some reason, my score always improves when there are erasers, and I play alone. Go figure!!
Outstanding layout. Grass was dormant and brown and course was undergoing ownership changes. I was told the Casino had bought it and were revamping the course. I was also told it used to be a Miller design but for reasons they didn't have that designation anymore. Greens were lightening fast. Club house is very nice and good food. The pro shop staff was outstanding. I had a group of 12 and we came from 150 miles away and Rick worked to make sure we got later tee times and a good rate. I play golf with my group all over and this is a definite one to play in Sacramento.
While the facilities and staff are nice, and while the course in enjoyable, it has numerous funky holes that just don't make any sense. Big bolders in the middle of a par 5 for example. They run good values, but just be prepared for some target type golf.
Whitney Oaks is a beautiful course with lots variety. The beauty can mask the fact the course has plenty of challenges. Don't let that scare you off, though. It is a course that you will want to come back to again and again.
The staff is professional and curteous. We have been playing there or practicing at the range for the last ten years. I have seen it go from the most challenging course and a record loss of balls, to a kinder and gentler course. Don't get me wrong, I still lose a sleeve of balls, but now I am down to just the one sleeve. It is challenging and very rewarding. The original course is a Johnny Miller design. Subsequent changes were made by the subsequent management companies. It is very quite and peaceful.
Just a course that is not that fun to play. The holes just tend to be a little odd. There are far better courses in the area
Good prices, especially twilight rates. Back nine is beautiful but narrow. Bring lots of balls.
Good start of the day with a breakfast at the Whitney Oaks Clubhouse overlooking the golf course and houses on Clubhouse Drive. Golf course slopes very nice in little valley just on the edge of the foothils with lots of old trees and big rocks. Not crowded, easy to reach and shady. Highly recommend.
Had a group hit into me three times and then have the nerve to confront me like it was my fault. I was waiting for the slow group ahead of me on each occasion. The guy actually hit me with his ball while I sat in my cart 250 yards away. Then he threatened me when I told him it was his responsibility to wait until we were out of the way. I contacted the pro shop personnel 3 times...they did nothing. They said the guy was a member and they didn't want to cause problems...I will never play there again...why would I??? Just for the record, I play a lot of golf at a lot of higher end courses. The atmosphere and the response of the staff was a joke. They should be ashamed.
Absolutely beautiful course that will challenge your shot making ability. Bring every club in the bag, you'll need them. Course conditioning was great for late in the season. Greens are fast and true. Troon management does it best.
