If you are planning a trip to St. Luis Obispo, try to be here on a Thursday evening. Be sure to bring a big appetite. Lots of great food to choose from--from BBQ to fresh fruit and vegetables. There's also great music and entertainment going on at the same time. Makes for a great evening! Be sure to park in the parking structure--inexpensive, and plenty of spots.
On our travel on The PCH we were directed to go to San Luis Obispo, since it was Thursday. Lots of vendor and local restaurants cooking on the streets. Students from Cal Poly added to the local flavor as well. Ordered roasted corn on the cob, then some ribs and Arachoke to eat from different vendors. Followed up with a strawberry Sunday. Then bought some strawberrys - just picked the day before -from a local grower plus some oranges to take with us to go. If you are near by, we stayed in Murrow Bay 15 miles away, the market is worth the trip. It's only on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 pm. Parking can be tough to find but keep looking!
What a fun market to visit. Lots of food vendors, outdoor entertainment, fruit, veggies, milk, cheese, etc. Fun stores to shop around. Have to be up for navigating around a lot of people, but it was a great evening.
Great atmosphere with lights hanging from trees that line the streets. This market is great for fresh, local produce and unusual fruits to taste! The weather here means there are all kinds of veges that do not grow in winter in many other places. Must try the corn on a stick and BBQ!
Great event to experience this lovely town! A lot of delicious stuff to eat and to drink. This is perfect for everyone (Family, friends, single or couple). You'll meet much of the college stuff and People and see them performing small shows or representing thier schools.Go there, eat the Tri Tip! :)
The bustle of the crowd and the products on sale. This was our second visit and we timed it to go to the market
2nd time we have been to the SLO farm market on Thursday night. Tip: meters free after 6pm. Disappointed in tip to get ribs at Rib Line tent. 2 ribs for $5 plus another $4 for 2 sides and a cola. Ribs still had membrane on and were tough. No charge cards. Try another spot. Locals seemed to prefer McFlintocks. Fair was almost exclusively food tents (cool) and farmer stalls. From experience I think the fair/market in Carlsbad, CA is better. Food, farmers and flea markets. SLO scene does have a good vibe and beats TV.
Nothing better than Farmer's Market on Thursday nights. The best ribs are at the very end of the line. It is the 'thing to do' in San Luis-- occurring weekly for the past 3+ decades.
I always attempt to set my travel dates to include Thursday in San Luis Obispo, specifically to attend their farmer's market. A year round treat, early evenings eqch Thursday...the romantic quality of street lights illuminating it all, as you wend you way through vendors of produce, crafts, and walk away, prepared culinary delights, makes this one of my favorite SLO anchor points.
They don't make Farmer's Markets like this where I come from and if you are anywhere near San Luis Obispo on a Thursday night, you should check out theirs. The city closes off many streets to cars and downtown becomes a huge pedestrian village. It was great getting to stroll the streets of SLO without worrying about getting run over by cars...but there were quite a few people enjoying the beautiful evening. And I can tell you why...there were so many booths selling wonderful local produce, products and services. There are also many local restaurants selling meals and we enjoyed trying a local specialty tri tip sandwiches. It was fascinating to see the wide variety of stalls, but mostly everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. There were also a few different bands playing along the route and it felt like one big party. Go and enjoy the fun.
Four to five blocks long with food, craft, goods & services booths on both sides of the street. At each intersection, a different live musical act has their own show on the street. With the Mission and the college so close, the people watching opportunities are limitless. Many bars and pubs offer happy hour discounts as well.
The San Luis Obispo Farmer's Market is held on Thursday night. It is more like a street fair. One can come down for barbecue and other food for dinner. They have tables and chairs out to enjoy one's meal. There is live music playing. There are happy people making this a great place to be. And if we are in the area, we are so happy to be able to be part of this Farmer's Market Street party. There are of course vegetables and other normal things one would find at a Farmer's Market. This one is the best such experience in all of California. We will buy more produce if on our way home or if we are on our way out, we will purchase fruit that would be perfect for a vacation trip.We have sometimes enjoyed the farmer's market and then had dinner at one of the restaurants in the farmer's market area. We in particular like the creek side seating and food at Novo. Although the farmer's market closes earlier, this part of San Luis Obispo stays lively on Thursday nights.Tip: This is the PLACE to be and be seen on a Thursday night (versus the sleepy ocean communities). So if in the area, opt for staying in San Luis Obispo so one can eat and drink!Thursday night at the Farmer's Market is a stellar experience.
I have been to many different Farmer's Markets in different cities and San Luis Obispo's is one of the best. Every Thursday, take a stroll down town and sample all the wonderful food and produce Northern California has to offer. The BBQ is unbeatable and the produce is always fresh, cheap, and delicious! The streets are buzzing with laughter, music, and mouth watering smells. It is a must for anyone traveling in the area looking to have a fun filled afternoon with the locals of the beautiful San Luis Obispo.
Love this Farmers Market and we visit every time we are in town. Get there early so you can find a parking spot close by. If u want to eat at the BBQ's the lines fill up quick!
