Every beer I tried was superlative. Each had its own unique combination of tastes, and each was a pleasure. Paul and his partner are brewing geniuses. Paul even took the trouble to explain to me how the characteristics of the water define the best beers in a given location.I simply do not like IPAs - never have, never will. WRONG! Paul suggested I try the Lupulin Lust. Wow - not like any IPA I'd had before. Extremely tasty, without the unpleasantness I usually associate with IPAs.They offer two sizes for beer, a pint and a 5 ounce "Taster". Given the amazing assortment of beers, I recommend the Tasters, so you can enjoy a little bit of everything. The staff was terrific - pleasant, fun, informative, and helpful.I visited the downtown San Diego location. Connected to Rip Current was the Sublime restaurant. There was a service window connecting the two, so patrons of Rip Current could order and eat a first class dinner without having to physically go to the restaurant. Because I could not eat the cream in one of the sauces, the chef even made variation of the sauce to order, just for me. I was with a large group, and without exception, every single dinner from Sublime was, well, sublime!I cannot wait to visit here again.
Rip Current is a great addition to the North County (San Diego) microbrew scene. For one thing, it's right off the freeway (78) and straight across the street from the Grand Plaza shopping center. So if shopping is not your thing, you can slip on down to Rip Current while the better half hits up Nordstrom Rack etc. That's what Steven Covey (7 Habits...) would call a win-win!My favs are the Marine Layer Hefe. and the Barrier Reef Nut Brown. Both are excellent and low on the IBU scale if you are not into bitter or hoppy beers.Note. Lots of restaurant choices across the street at the aforementioned mall if it's time for some food.Nice place and great staff. Will return again.
My husband and I love great craft brew, so on our recent trip to San Diego, we stopped by Rip Current for some tasters. We were very impressed by the quality of beer they had available. I loved their darker beers and Belgians. Lucky for us, it was also brew week in SD and they had free bbq from a Bay Area restaurant to go with our beer (also delicious). We had two small children traveling with us and the guys working the tasting room were really accommodating.
If you love IPAs, or just want a broad selection of beers to sample, you can't go wrong by visiting Rip Current Brewing in San Marcos. The owners and staff are super friendly and their brewers have won many awards, including national "Brewmaster of the Year". My favorite IPAs are Impact Zone (6.5%) and Lupulin Lust (8.3%) -- be careful of the latter, because it doesn't taste as alcoholic as it is.They often have very good food trucks outside as well. Love this place!
Great values, great beer! Friendly staff too! Super fun sample glasses, had to buy a few to take home. Would have bought a shirt but the logo is a bit too SoCal for me ;-)
