great snow shoe hike, falls were frozen over, perfect day for a hike only passed 5 people the whole day

we hiked this trail during our visit to Sequoia….the terrible drought in California has reduced the Falls to a trickle but it was still a great hike and we came nose to nose with an 8 point buck who regarded us nonchalantly as we passed within 6 feet of him. A great hike in a great park!

This was a VERY long walk to what we thought would be some magnificent falls, but alas, the California drought had dried them up. The views were absolutely spectacular which makes me want to bump up the rating, but no falls....darn!

This trail starts out gently enough, only to end with a climb up a "trail" literally blasted out of the rock. It definitely requires stepping carefully, especially if you're not wearing good hiking boots. The falls themselves are pretty with just.a little water flowing. I'm sure they're quite impressive when there's more water. You may well see others climbing beyond the trail. There are signs warning that it isn't safe, and I don't recommend it. I'm pretty adventuresome, and I thought it better to stay on the trail. Also, there's a too-friendly marmot living near the end of the trail. He will attempt to get into your stuff, if you leave it for even a moment.

We started on the trail and it was beautiful trail along the river and after 1/8 of a mile, my daughter wanted to go play in the river like others were doing so we skipped the falls and dipped our toes in the water. From those who were coming down told us that at the end it's all uphill and gravel. There was a little bit of water in the fall. We went at the end of the June so wouldn't expect too much.

While the trail starts at the busy campsite, it quickly gave way to a quiet easy pace trail on which we were able to see a Marmot, a mama bear and her cubs, several chipmunks, squirrels, and a myriad of birds!

Well worth the hike to see the falls. Lots of wild flowers and scenic views of the river. NPS rates this as an easy hike. I would rate it as moderate due to incline and one section requires navigating over large rocks. Easy for a fit person, but we saw folks early in the hike that I seriously doubted would be able to make through the rocky section to the falls.

And I think to myself...What a wonderful world:) We had an amazing time. What an Adventure to visit this place. My family enjoy the scenery...gorgeous!!! Highlight was the hike to Tokopah Trail to see the waterfall. We arrived at 9:30 am, in the parking lot my daugther said, Mom! There is something furry out there. And it was a young Black Bear! Tokopah Fall was amazing. On our way back, we met another two Black Bears on our trail. We had to back track our steps and watch ad this two bears walk on our trail. After ten minutes, we did a detour to give the bear space to explore. What a great experience for my two kids to see this place. A Real Beautiful Nature. Thanks, RMLVisited: May 25, 2014

The hike to Tokopah Falls was to us one of the more enjoyable hikes in Sequoia. Park in the back of the Lodgepole Campground lot to access it. It is a relatively easy hike, about 3.4 miles round trip with very little grade. A very pretty waterfall awaits you at the end. Along the way we saw many black lizards, and near the end of the hike when you are approaching the area with the boulders, we saw several yellow-bellied marmots playing on the rocks. Be sure to have your camera ready to take pictures of the wildlife.

We stayed at Three Rivers at Comfort Inn(nice and only one decent hotel in the area) while visiting Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. It is a very small town with no shopping malls, bad cell phone connection, yet it has it's own beauty.Nice, small pizza place across the street from Comfort Inn. Nice small town. Very peaceful getaway. Tokopah Falls is a big part of it. Beautiful and Peaceful.

I fell in love with this hike because no one was there and the view was spectacular. We saw some cool wildlife and the falls were great!

My friends and I visited Tokopah falls during winter when the trail was under about a foot of snow. Luckily there were still remaining footprints of a few others who made the trip before us and lead us the way. The river was flowing nicely which was a good sign, meaning the waterfall was flowing as well. The trail itself is, im sure, very easy however it was a pain walking in snow and ice but still manageable. Just count on sore ankles later lol. Even so, the snow made everything so much more beautiful, the trees and mountains contrasting to the surrounding snow. Amazing views of towering granite rocks on both sides as you get closer to the falls. Definitely a must see in the park.

This was an amazing hike! The best hike I have ever done for wildlife! We saw a black bear that was about 60feet off the trail, we watched and took pictures and he didn't even care. As we continued along we saw a brown bear with a cub strolling through the forest about the same distance away. There was a family of deer, females and males with the big horns about 20 feet off the path who didn't really care we were there taking pictures of them. Then we saw another brown bear and 2 cubs near the falls. It was an amazing experience. However, when we got to the falls. It was just a trickle of water. I highly recommended going early in the morning, we left around 7am and that's when the wildlife is out. If you want to see the falls you would have to go a different time of year. For me the wildlife more then made up for the missing falls!

It's not often you can find an easy hike that leads to such a beautiful view of falls. It's pretty heavily trafficked, so if you like to be a lone hiker not for you. But if you want to see beautiful rushing water for easy, do this. There's a nice pool at the top you can wade in, too. It took us 3 hours total with a long visit at the top.

This hiking path starts within a campground and was pretty crowded by my standards. We saw a mama bear and her twins on one side of the path as we went towards the falls and then on the other as we retuned. We saw a young buck, a family of marmots and lots of birds. The hike was relatively easy even for our 7yo. We took plenty of water and a reserve 64oz. and drank all of it on this hot July day. There was rumor of hiking poles and equipment being stolen so we kept a watchful eye on ours. I admit we were violators and did climb on the rocks over to the falls. My 13yo did slip and fell on his bottom in the falls but didn't get hurt. We watched several guys diving from the ledge above the pool into the water and although my kids begged me mercilessly I did not let them do that. The water was very refreshing on that hot day! I saw a guy filling up his water containers but without being familiar with the area and no steripen I wouldn't chance it. The falls were small due to the drought but they were the perfect size for us that day. I highly recommend! You can purchase picnic items at the Lodgepole store before heading back but be sure to use a bear vault of some kind in your pack. Do not leave scented items or food in your car there are "extra" bear boxes in the parking lot. The rocks near the end of the hike to the falls can be treacherous but you can still view the falls without clambering over the rocks. This hike, although easy is not for strollers.
