The Grand Island Mansion in Walnut Grove makes for a beautiful wedding venue. It has gorgeous maintained grounds making for some beautiful background pictures. Also included in the grounds is a magnificent swimming pool, basketball court and tennis court. But since this mansion is booked mainly for wedding functions, the added amenities seem to be going to waste. With 2 wedding parties being held during the day here, if you are a guest for the earlier in the day wedding, you may feel like you are being rushed into leaving the place and cannot really appreciate all of the Mansions splendor. As I was a guest and participant of an evening wedding, I was afforded the luxury of staying overnight and was really able to enjoy the Mansion. The room we stayed in was the bride & grooms suite. (They choose to stay in a different room). It was huge! But, it was a rather dark room and in need of some upkeep. There are a ton of stairs at this mansion and it's not very handicap friendly so family & friends with disabilities may have a problem getting around. The buffet dinner was just so-so. Lots of fruit & salad but nothing really to write home about. The wait staff for our reception was excellent. The staff in the mansion itself...so-so. And beware...once they lock the place up for the night, you had better be inside because it is very difficult to find an open door or a person to let you back in.

We hadn't been to the Mansion in years. Decided to partake of their Christmas Brunch. The food was great (the first time I have ever had salmon from a buffet that was not overcooked). The dessert table had a huge and varied selection. The best part for us was being able to wander around the grounds and inside the mansion - in the past we had to stay in one area. The Christmas decorations made the mansion especially lovely. The upstairs suites are wonderful. The renovation is impressive (my husband had his senior prom there in 1967 and it was not in the best of shape - the next 30 years didn't see much improvement - most of the house was closed to the public). The buffet is offered on Saturday and Sunday only.

My wife and I were told about this place from people that were going there for a wedding. We looked at the reviews and saw many people thought it was a great place for a wedding. So we decided to go there for our anniversary. The grounds were nice but when we stepped inside we could smell the age. It wasn't bad or overpowering but it was there. We were sat in the back of the room. We asked if this was the ballroom or the dining room they said it was both. We sat there for a little to soak in the ambiance, again it was nice but... It was loud and as they sat more people it got louder. We asked to be moved to another table. We were told we could not be moved there because it was reserved for a party that was arriving at 12:30pm. I looked at my watch it was 10:15am.My wife and I walked to the buffet and got our food. The food was presented well. I like my hot food hot, not barely warm. It was hard to enjoy the food when it is barely warm and we cannot hear each other talk at a small table.Once we finished we decided to leave since we were not enjoying anything. As we were leaving we noticed another dining area off to the side. We asked about that room and was told we could have been placed there, all we had to do was ask. Next time we come just ask to be sat there.Maybe we will go to a wedding there but I doubt if we will be back for the buffet.

This mansion must have been "The Place" in it's early days. We attended a wedding there several years ago and found it spellbindingly magnificent. The food served was exquisite, the service impeccable. One great "Big Occasion" venue. Down by the riverside in old growth it just sparkled.

Absolutely gorgeous grounds, gardens, statues, and facilities here. There was a wedding when we visited, so we didn't go inside the mansion, but the outside was wonderful. Lots to see. Definitely going back to check it out again. It's at the end of a long side road--not much else immediately nearby, but what a beautiful riverside drive.

It was a fairy tale location for our wedding. Lovely day, lovely friends, etc. The waterside location was perfect as was the regal decor and tasty food. Perfect size also!

Last December, (2012), we were invited to a wedding that was to be at the Grand Island Mansion in Walnut Grove, Ca. From the time we found the Mansion, we were absolutely amazed at the building, grounds and the service we received. The wedding was an outdoor venue, (thank god the weather complied). The setting was completely "storybook". Later, at the wedding dinner we thoroughly enjoyed the food and service. Later still at the reception, the service coninued through the night. Great job Grand Island Mansion.

GREAT wedding location. Fantastic sunday brunch that will make you feel like royalty. Dress up and make it a special occasion. I have been there many times.

This is what I think of when I think of a historic "mansion". Difficult to find. Getting there is 1/2 the fun. Go on a nice afternoon.

this is a beautiful mansion for having weddings or other catered affairs. Can hold up to 350 people. Very accomodating and good food

I went here for a wedding and it was very quiet, great scenery, the food was some of the best wedding food I have ever had, an the staff was so professional!

Long ride. Beautiful restaurant and grounds. Went on Mothers Day. Wide selection of food at the buffet. Plenty to choose from.

My friend held his wedding which I attended here. The estate was and mansion were beautiful and the package catering service were equally impressive and satisfying. There was a nice pool on the premises, several dining halls catering to various meal function rooms, as well as a reception terrace and garden lawn and fountain for the garden party and main ceremony. Bride and Groom Suite and separate suites for accompanying family members and friends were conveniently arranged in finely adorned and grandly decorated rooms on the second and third floors with social rooms connecting them for meetups. I hope to return someday for my own grand wedding ceremony!

I attended a wedding at the Grand Island Mansion and was very impressed. The decorations and food was very tastefully done. The place is beautiful and a perfect setting for a wedding.

Went here on Sunday for their once a month brunch. I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be pulling up to the Mansion. The website definitely has very good pictures of the place, and well I was just expecting more. The yard is very beautiful, but I wouldn't call the place grandiose in anyway. The entrance into the Mansion is very nice, and then you step into the banquet room for brunch and you feel like you stepped into Olive Garden (except tackier). The art is cheesy at best. The bathroom is the size of a closet, and the toilet is well worn.It doesn't appear that you can take a walk around the mansion or in any of the other rooms. I'm sure this place could be quite stunning for a wedding (the other rooms might be quite beautiful), but as far as for a visit for lunch, well, I definitely wouldn't drive out from Sacramento again unless they were going to offer a tour or some other attraction. The service was good, the food was fine, and the metal outdoor furniture was a little uncomfortable.
