Rainbow Falls state park might have a campground, but the falls were merely a small section of rapids. We followed the road signs and of course, because we forgot our Discover pass at home, had to pay $10 to get in the park. We parked and walked to the river. There are falls, possibly in better winter seasons, but the river was low and the small section was not very impressive. But the most disappointing thing was finding out, after we had paid of course, that the hiking trails are accessed from the main road, outside the park and we could have simply pulled off the road where an old bridge abutment was located, to see them...for free. Disappointing, but live and learn.
Campsites and picnic area are inside the actual park, but hiking trails are outside, need to park on the shoulder of the highway. Went hiking through the trails, can be done in around an hour. Nice hike, lots of old trees. The waterfall isn't much of a waterfall, lost in the flood a few years back, but still a nice place for a day trip or camping.
Beautiful little state park just off State Hwy 6 about 20 miles west of Chehalis, Wash. The "falls" were more like white water, but beautiful nonetheless. Camp sites available for overnight. Very clean and well maintained. Great picnic spot and huge covered area (must be reserved) for larger group picnic or barbecue. $10 for parking or use the state park pass. Nice walking trails.
