This was the starting point for a Bald Eagle viewing raft trip. It is a lovely park with clean facilities, plenty of parking and the Eagle Center.
The park is beautiful and kept very clean. As we arrived the campground manager Rusty and a helper were blowing the leaves off the road. The sites are pretty good with a lot of space between them. Some of the campsites back right up to the river. There are some nice walking trails that leave from the park. We have been here a couple of times over the years and Rusty does a fantastic job of keeping the park clean. We will come back.
The park is very well laid out accommodating for the largest rigs. We stayed at one of the premium sites which backed into the Skagit River. There is no direct river access as there is a border or trees and shrubs in between. These premium sites are only 30 amps. No sites have sewer but there is a dump station which even registered guests must pay $5 to use. There is ample grass space between sites for your party to spread out and enjoy. The roads are on the narrow side - we had to drive over grass to park our 5th wheel - but not a problem to be concerned about for getting around the park itself. The dump station is near the entrance but poorly laid out because there is no way to make a U-turn back to your site if there are any vehicles in the day-use parking area. The dump station was probably an after thought. The lack of sewer and poor dump station layout was the reason for only 4 out of 5 stars otherwise very nice park. Highly recommended.
Wonderful fall day to walk along the river. Very clean and safe area. Lots of wildlife. Super clear water
We travelled four weeks with a rented RV trough Oregon, Washington, Montana and Idaho. The Howard Miller Steelhead Park was the best campground we found. Beautiful places, good atmosphere, nice river and good and clean restrooms. We had some problems due to a leaking roof during a rainy night. In the morning the staff was so helpful and the fixed the problem (no charge!) for us. No water inside the cabin the rest of our trip. The good people of the Howard Miller Steelhead Park know the real meaning of hospitality and they live up to it! Many thanks again from Marianne en Cor van den Berg. The Netherlands
This is a very nice and clean camping area - Skagit County Campground - along the Skagit River. There is good fishing right there. The RV sites are level with power and water. There is no sewer hookup but there is a dump station - but - they charge $5 to dump even if you have been camping there. This seems like kind of a rip off. The prices for the hook up spots are in the $26 -$30 category. The bathrooms are clean but not heated. If you want a shower it costs $1 for 4 - minutes. Remember to pay for you slip before 2 pm or the ranger will come get your money and fine you $5 extra dollars for his recovery services. There is a nice hiking trail nearby. The park is very nice but compared to Washington State Parks the seem to be gouging a little with the dump fee thing and the pay late fee thing.... and the shower fee.
This is a beautiful park right on the Skagit river. RV sites back right up to the river. You can get one if you call and reserve ahead of time. It is a quiet park, with a little store within walking distance. If you go in September, or October , and if you are a fisherman, you stand a good chance of catching a Salmon. They run good on the river. Many put their chairs right on the bank to view the fishing activity. Also through the winter the Bald Eagles are active fishing for Salmon. There are also quiet trails that follow the river bank. The hook ups for RV's are water/electric only, but the have a dump station to use. And they keep the park maintained daily year round. Enjoy
We found this park by accident looking for picnic tables. It is right on the Skagit River and is well maintained. There are several picnic tables with BBQ's in a grassy area. There are also bathrooms. There is an old log cabin and a dug out canoe with interpretations.Adjacent to the park is a RV site, camping and a boat launch. Just a lovely place!
We went here with no real expectations and left with a clear desire to return. This wonderful park in situated along the Skagit river with about 40 RV/tent sites and 10 Tent only sites, all spacious. 2 small cabins are also available to rent. There is a boat launch in the park as well. Easy access to the river from multiple locations is a real bonus. We found the park very clean with the restrooms and showers maintained daily. There are also nice walking trails at one end with multiple paths all connected. They are also very lax about allowing your well mannered dog off leash on the trail which we really enjoyed. While we were there a crew from Parks and Rec were mowing, blowing and cleaning every site. We also encountered a crew from the Washington State Conservation Corps who were cleaning up blackberry bushes and working on replanting some native trees and shrubs. There is a real focus on keeping this park as natural as possible which means no chemicals are used to control vegetation, just old fashioned manual labor. You've got to respect that. We are so impressed the all the quite, natural splendor this park offers that we plan to return soon.
The park is very well maintained with clean flushing bathrooms stocked with soap. Tent sites are walk-in to a nice grassy area by the river. Prices are great, $16 for a camp site. As far as day camping. When you pull in they have an area with bbqs and bathrooms. You can't see the river because of foliage but, it's an easy place to go with a family or group.www.campingcontessa.com
If you're going to be in the area put this address into your GPS. We almost missed it, the signs aren't too noticeable when you're driving by. The tent sites alongside the river are big and grassy, the RV sites have huge parking spaces, some paved some gravel, and there are acres of grass all around. Each site is quite separate from the others. There's a wonderful playground for kids. The washroom facilities are clean and there's a constant staff of young people from the Parks and Rec working around the grounds. It's a very lovely and commendable place.
This is actually one of the nicest County Parks I've ever seen. Very well maintained and clean.Nice large grassy areas break the park up into sections as it runs east-west along the riverfront. There are 2 playground areas for the restless urchins. Day use area with the normal historical and interpretive stuff, picnic facilities, boat launch, and access for fishing. There is something like 50 RV spaces, 10 tent sites, and 2 cabins. So obviously it is designed for/around RV use, but still is useful for tent campers. During the summer it is REALLY busy so reserve well in advance. Cost for spaces is reasonable ... see the website linked at the top of this page for more/better pics and information than I can give! The cabins and west playground are both rather recent additions and in great condition. Food and cold "refreshments" are available just up the hill beyond the park border.
