We stopped in for an early dinner and also enjoyed wine tasting. The food was delicious and since most restaurants weren't open before 4:30pm we were happy to find a good place to eat when we were ready.
My husband, brother-in-law and I decided to take a last minute mini wine tour on the Olympic Peninsula. We already had a few places we wanted to see again, but decided to check whether there were any new wineries to visit. We saw Wind Rose listed and almost didn't go there because it was downtown Sequim, not out in the countryside. But we were very glad we did.It was mid-day on a quiet weekend, so we didn't get to hear the live music that's listed on their website, but it was very cozy. With just a few of us there, we sat at the bar and chatted with the wine expert and each other making it feel like a "Cheers" moment. We enjoyed the Barbera Red Mountain. We'll definitely go back again!
The food here is local and made to order but be aware, this is not a full service kitchen. Are you tired of restaurant fare? This place offers gourmet goodies for the discerning palate paired with remarkable local wines. My husband and I go here for a light meal, relaxing wine, and music that doesn't blow your eardrums out. We are currently listening to a fella playing a mean 6 string acoustical guitar - perfect match to our night out.
On a quaint little anytown- Main St. type strip, sits Wind Rose Cellars. Part tasting room, part restaurant, part art house, part music venue. And yet rather that come off as schizophrenic its more just one of those places you stroll into and enjoy yourself. There was no live music when we stopped, so we had the quiet experience, but made friends with the local couple at the bar and the one woman running the place by herself. She was knowledgeable about their wines and created a tasting to suit us. We also nibbled on 2 of their small plates - a flat bread an a hummus plate - which both had Gluten Free options (hooray!) and by the time we were done here we were just full enough to call it dinner. Would have bought some of the wall art had I known of a way to get it home. If you're in the Sequim area definitely have a nice little date night here. Its also nestled in the "lobby" of the local newspaper, so its fun to wander down their halls and see how they've developed over the years.
The Wind Rose Cellars are worth a visit if you're in Sequim. They're a bit more than a local winery. They have a kitchen with some really tasty offerings that add some real zest and pleasure to tasting a flight of whites and reds produced by their vintner. You can happily enjoy an hour in a pleasant ambience while sampling an comparing a nice selection of Italian style wines. We lingered over about six or eight different wine offerings tasted along with a delicious brie with fig sauce and took home a couple bottles of pinot grigio that compared well with pinot grigios we'd enjoyed at our second home in southern Italy. There were a lot of other good things on the menu as well. It was a lovely way to spend a little time on a Sunday afternoon in a nice town that we haven't visited nearly often enough.
We were pleasantly surprised by our visit to Wind Rose Cellars. They host evenings with music. We were there Saturday night (8/17/13) and listened to two guitarists while tasting wine and enjoying a small plate of Charcuterie and the Caprese Skewers - delicious! I am not a wine aficionado, but they have a wide offering to satisfy most palettes.
