Glass was pretty and decently priced. Salesgirl was kind. The man in with the blowing equipment was less than nice. Kinda impersonal, wouldn't tell us if they were blowing today. Couldn't care less to even provide a smile or apology. Why give your money somewhere that is so bad with service? There glass wasn't that cool. The location rocked.
Very unique place and extremely creative. Friendly owner/artist. It's always nice to be able to meet the artist and I enjoyed chatting with him about his art.
The sisters and I signed up to blow our own glass. Patrick and the owner were awesome. I chose a float, my sisters made a glass bowl, and a glass paperweight. Totally cool experience. They made the experience the safest yet most hands on possible, and very fun. Just be aware the glass needs a day to cool down so it won't shatter. They also have neat-o things to buy already made, like Texas tumblers, little turtles, etc.
We love our glassware from Callahan's! I enjoy drinking out of it everyday. The owner also contributes to the community through a glass float event. I like that- artistry and community mindedness.
All in all it's a great place to watch glass being blown or to blow your own $65 piece of glass. They have " wishing stones" of blown glass that were very affordable souvenirs. On Thursday they were $6 , went in Friday to pick up 10 as gifts to take home for friends and they went up to $9 overnight !.needless to say my friends received something else.
We had so much fun doing this. Four kids and two adults and everyone was happy. It's as fun to watch as to participate. Guys were really nice and friendly and it's quick, not a huge time commitment. I wish this wasn't listed under shopping - more of an attraction I think. There is plenty to buy, of course, but it's fun to wander in and watch.
We loved this place so much we went back two days in a row! It was just amazing to watch the glass blowers work. On the walls and in the cases are beautiful examples of their work: bowls, sea themed, whimsical, garden art. The colors and shapes are gorgeous! When we asked about some of the pieces, we were ushered into the back room where many many more pieces individual one of a kind pieces sat on shelves. Couldn't help ourselves...purchased two...and they shipped!
My husband and I had our destination wedding on Whidbey Island with our immediate family in attendance. We decided to schedule Callahan's "Blow your own glass" as a group activity the day after the wedding. We had a group of about 14 people who wanted to participate. Callahan and his team did such a great job with wrangling our large group and giving everyone their own personal attention. We were able to pick what we wanted to make and the colors of glass we wanted to use. They mailed all of our pieces back to New Mexico for us when we returned and the delivery was timely and all of the glass made it in one piece! I definitely recommend Callahan's Firehouse for both "blow your own glass" and for browsing their beautiful gallery and shop. My husband and I look forward to returning for our anniversaries to come!
You can blow your own glass here. Lots of nice glass both artistic and functional. Reasonable prices too.
Gorgeous works of art made on premises often while you watch. And a wonderful dog for the kids to play with while you are shopping.
had a great time watching the glass works going on! Beautiful things to sell. and the staff was interesting, they told us what they were doing with each step. It was fun!
VERY, very talented glassblower artisan with BEAUTIFUL things in his working showroom. Loved setting in former village fire station.
You can learn to blow glass too! I love his pieces for your garden. At home, they remind me of traveling to Whidbey and my wonderful experiences on the island.
An artistic object to have as a take away after a brief education in glass. Wow. Callahan is cordial, informative and fun.
We happened to stroll by this place and decided to go in due to all of the color on the inside and out. My son loved the metal and glass sculpture of the rocket ship outside. Once inside we realized they blew glass there and actually let you do it also (if you paid $65 a piece). Our kids were mesmerized, and we were quite surprised that they were so taken. As adults it's pretty cool, but the kids just did not want to leave. I think the price is pretty good for what you get, but we did not have time to wait our turn, and then times 3 with 3 kids. But we will make time, next time we go back. This is also a "store" to buy the artists craft, as well as to watch the blowing which is free, and then if you desire to pay-blow your own. We stayed about 20 minutes before prying the kids away.
