My Dad and I first toured this museum a year or so ago and we were both was amazed at all of the information, history and interactive exhibits in this museum! It certainly was much more than we expected in a town the size of Anderson. When visiting friends or relatives be sure and take in this museum.
A Perfect stop for a rainy day in a little town. We were staying at a lake house nearby for the holidays. Rainy day we went to the town of Anderson to find some things to do and found this museum. Actually quite nice for the size of it.
There is a lot to Anderson, that I never knew & this museum spells it out for you. The staff is friendly, but they love your input on things that had happened & they do not know about. Very well laid out & informative. Love the gift shop.
When visiting the Electric City stop by the Anderson Museum. Friendly folk, interesting displays. Attend one of the Curator Corners - lectures given by a very knowledgeable curator often about the history of Anderson, other parts of the Upstate, some famous/infamous individuals from the area, etc. Attend special guest lectures, Mistletoe Market for holiday gift shopping, programs for youngsters, etc.
Located in the old sears store. Well layed out. Amazing the history of Anderson an people from that county from a WWI African American Medal of Honor recipient to two Major League Baseball players. Lots of displays and artifacts. Large display of murth circus. Children would in joy.
This museum celebrates and examines the history which has made Anderson County what it is today. It is on a level above your typical local museum and it does cover every aspect of the history with unvarnished empathy. The artifacts are impressive for its size. No major area goes untouched in the story presented over time and the displays blend well the celebration of local folk and the serious side of how things were in the past. The early history from the colonial period to the antebellum could use more attention yet the major milestones are from that time period forward so one has to focus there. This place is worth a visit and you will have to come back to read the displays all over and take it in again and again. I know I brushed the surface in an hour.
employees were so friendly and nice--in fact we LOVED S Carolina!!! Beautiful state with beautiful people. Ready to return! The museum was small but lots of nice exhibits and items. Worth you time!
This museum has so much going on. I get frequent notices of events and enjoy the exhibits there. My son has always enjoyed going to this museum.
Miss Linda gives the most wonderful children's programs we have ever been given the privilege to attend. She is a treasure and we appreciate all she does for our Grandchildren, Sylvia and Annabelle and all the other kids who participate in her programs.God has given her unbelievable ways to teach, educate, and lift children up to do the best they can. Miss Linda makes every week exciting and the girls can't wait to show us what they have made and describe all they have learned. We highly recommend the Anderson County Museum. Adults will love it too.Jack Fahy
For a small town museum, this place is great. First of all it is FREE!!! There is a lot of great artifacts from civil and revolutionary war. There are some good exhibits on the history of the Electric City and the schools of Anderson. If you have an hour or two, you should definitely check out the museum.
The Anderson County Museum in Anderson, SC (the 'Electric City') is a nice place with lots exhibits featuring local history. Took my son on a Saturday and the place was a ghost town. The staffers were nice. Had to find somebody to check us out in the gift shop, as it was open but unattended at the time. A fun father & son afternoon.
The museum is much bigger than outside appearance. Lots of wonderful artifacts, well laid out and very interesting items of local history. I am not originally from this area but I loved seeing all that this museum has to offer. Will be more than happy to return when company visits us from England in July.
The displays are great and information is excellent. I liked how you walked through time from one display to another.
I was expecting much for a local history museum, but this was a very clean and organized museum. Lots of exhibits and artifacts. Plenty of literature. I thought this would be a place where we would see everything in about an hour, but we ended up spending more like 2 and half hours here. Very nice local history museum!!
visiting family in Anderson South Carolina ulast year we spent time looking around Anderson town.the museum is worth visiting if you are interested in the American Civil War and and local history.Lots of exhibits on display giving a good insight in to what South Carolina was like during the Civil War period.Another historic town worth a visit is Pendleton, about 20 minutes drive north of Anderson.we stayed at the Holiday Inn in Anderson and found this hotel very good and comfortable.
