This is a great place for history buffs. I loved walking thru the old buildings and picturing life lived in a different era.

Walnut Grove Plantation is a delight to visit. We learned a lot about life back in the day and the presentations were informative and fun. This is a good place to bring your family.

This site has some great local history that tells a lot about how that area was settled and developed. The guides are extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the plantation and its history. they also are actively working to improve the knowledge of the plantation through anthropological forensics and archeological digs.In addition to the main house, there are several out buildings such as the barns, a school house (moved there from about 5 miles away but erected by the family), and kitchen. The grounds are extensive, and you can walk them at your leisure . There is a formal garden near the house and a nature trail that goes near a creek. The nature trail also takes you to the family cemetery. There are events at the plantation, so check the Web site before going.

The grounds were nice and the staff were friendly. There were many historic things to view- an old school house, a cemetery, a cooking house and a residential house. Also to view was a garden and a gift shop.

The Battle at Cowpens re-enactment was very nice and informative. Many interesting exhibits and an education for everyone. Would recommend this event to everyone interested in history and certainly our countries history.

We had a lovely visit. A large group of ladies from around the country visited the plantation one Thursday morning. We had a lovely guide who explained many interesting items and told many good stories about the original owners. The buildings are in good shape and have many artifacts to enhance the visit.

It was great to learn about this interesting location but also about the military history of the area. It's probably best not to go for this tour on an extremely hot day.

If you have time to kill this is a neat place to visit but not much to see in my opinion. There are better things to do in town.

The hour tour was interesting but felt like it was a little rushed. We were shown the house and a couple of buildings then left to roam around the location by ourselves.

I visited this site while attending a conference in Greenville, SC. I asked my gps for attractions and this site came up. It is a little tricky to find but worth the trip. There is lots of history in this area, including plantation houses, relics, and a graveyard. It has very restricted hours so I would look ahead to make sure its open. Also, allow yourself lots of time as there are many site to visit and the last tour of the day is at 4 PM. There is a gift shop, but the selection is somewhat restricted. A definite must-see if you are in the area.

Near our home in Spartanburg, SC. Very historical and well maintained. The house is small and there are few out buildings. Best to go when they are having reenactments. Lots of revolutionary war soldiers and muskets firing, even a cannon going off as they reenact a revolutionary war battle. Lots of vendors and things to do for adults and children. Actually the reenactment is a lot bigger than what actually happened there. So my advise is wait and go when then have a special event.

My wife and I went here for a visit today and were very impressed by the time we spent. Unlike many of the other, perhaps larger, plantations in SC this is a small and very undeveloped plantation with some very interesting buildings and historical furnishings that are, for the most part, very much in line with the period of the buildings. The admission was just $6 per adult. The guides, all volunteers, were informative, friendly and keen to answer all our questions. A lovely quiet and thought provoking place to spend a couple of hours learning a bit about the life of the early settlers to this area of the country. Would recommend to anyone in the area to visit.

For years, we have passed by the Walnut Grove Plantation sign on Interstate 26--always wondering just what it was all about. Well, hubby and I elected to drop by WGP today as we headed back home following a brief stay in Asheville. We were pleasantly surprised at the history on tap here. (The ancient cemetery is particularly moving.) The docent was very outgoing, and her presentation was quite informative in regard to colonial and revolutionary era history.

We saw a re-enactment of a skirmish there and it was very well done. Worth going out to see. We went several years ago and the system didn't let me put a date that far back.
