hatcher garden & woodland preserve

This is a wonderful garden that was started by an individual. It's probably quadruple the space it started out as, and the community supports it as well. I have taken guests there, and we all enjoyed the beautiful work that has been done in this special space.

Wonderful place to take a walk and get grand ideas for landscaping. Especially helpful if you go to one of the large plant sales they have a couple of times a year and staffed by people who know plants. The paths are in great shape for anybody who might be challenged on rough terrain. Plenty of places throughout to sit. Perfect place to relax, spend and spend some time, let nature help you recharge.

We were visiting friends recently and they took us to this beautiful place. There was so much to see and enjoy. We took a wealth of photos! The day was perfect for a walk in the woods and this woodland preserve is one of the best.

Whenever it is a pretty day out and there is not much to do , I take the kids to Hatcher Garden and let them run free. It is fast, quiet and a great place to take pictures and enjoy nature.

We came during late fall – maybe not the best time if you like to see flowers but we still loved the place. First of all it was almost empty and it feels like you are there all by yourself (you can’t hear cars or any other city noise even though you are in the middle of Spartanburg). Secondly, this place gives the feeling of a wild unattended place despite the obvious fact it is – this is really charming especially compared to all the gardens where every bush is trimmed and every leave is in place. It is not very big but you can easily spent there 2-3 hours. Open everyday.

I am a native of Spartanburg and must have driven by Hatcher Gardens thousands of times but never visited until the memorial service for a friend's son was held there. It was the most perfect place for that and the flowers were blooming and many people were there for other things that day. I saw a photographer doing a bridal portrait and a very large family making a family photo and single photos, joggers on the trails and picnicers all around the well kept park. I made around 200 photos and before I knew it 2 hours had passed! One of the loveliest afternoons ever in my hometown.

Beautiful garden! Loved all the places. Went earlier in the summer and then just went on Labor Day and my boyfriend proposed! This location will always have a special place in my heart. It is very nice and I would recommend visiting if you're ever in the area.

A nice, quiet little meandering path through a beautiful natural woodland preserve. Take a book, sit and reflect, or meet up for a picnic lunch with a friend.

I love going here on Sundays with my husband to walk and spend time together. The Gardens are very pretty!

A nice botanical garden right in the middle of Spartanburg. Was an enjoyable stroll after riding several hours in a car earlier in the day.

This place is great. There's lots of plaques showing info about the huge variety of plants throughout the garden. You can really learn a lot here or just take some nice pictures.

Just discovered this gem in the city. Lovely, peaceful with loads of places to sit and enjoy. They ask for a donation, make one, it is well worth it.

We have been several times. It's located on a very busy road and you will be amazed how much they have packed into the amazing property.Streams and waterfalls..pathways that wrap around and intertwine. It's beautiful.They welcome picnics.We have taken numerous private picture shoots there as well, for proms. It's a wonder cf up backdrop.You won't be disappointed.

This was a nice place to go walk around while in Spartanburg. It's free, but they do have a donation stand to help keep things going. It's a neat history lesson as well!

This is FREE to everyone BUT there is a donation jar at the entrance so please donate some and buy a plant or two at the end. There's plenty of benches and gazebos that you could take a picnic basket with you and enjoy the quiet and beautiful landscape! Give it a go.
