This beautiful house on Franklin St. brilliantly showcases Chapel Hill's historic background by providing a quaint and charming experience for its visitors. The house itself is a town landmark. I visited for just under an hour and I learned so much! Truly a must see for history buffs!!

A big rambling house that seems to have belonged to a well-to-do professor of philosophy. Good venue for weddings.

Home of the Chapel Hill Preservation Society. Used to be home of the annual Cupcake Festival. People would come from all over to experience it. Great venue for weddings and other events. A beautiful setting in a beautiful part of Chapel Hill.

I walk by the Horace Williams House nearly every day on my way to town. There are frequently wedding receptions on the front lawn and Chapel Hill holds its Fourth of July celebration there. I go every year. It's an interesting place to visit if you happen to be there for a wedding or the July 4th celebration, but hardly worth going out of your way for.

First of all, may I suggest that you give your heart to God, and have your wedding in the Episcopal Chapel of the Cross not far up the same (Franklin) street. They have a nice social hall, and it's a lot more charming than this place. However, as to Horace Williams: This is a funky old house, made into an event destination by some local people who love funky old houses. This is a place where you can break your leg, burst your bladder, and wrench your back. And then the fun begins. . . . I have attended an assortment of weddings, receptions, and parties here, and while I am always delighted to share important events in the lives of my friends, I really just don't get the joke about this place. First, you CANNOT approach this from the front. You have to park in the back, or on the very narrow streets back there, and walk around on the terribly uneven cobbled brick sidewalks, or the equally uneven and impossible to predict ground. When you get around, there are the funky old saggy steps to deal with. . . Second, once inside, the restrooms are awkward, small, old, and inconvenient. Do NOT have an "emergency" in this place. Like as not, someone else will be having one as well. . . . Third, the furniture indoors is rumpsprung and crashingly uncomfortable. OUTSIDE? You will be treated to rented folding chairs which, in addition to being too low to begin with, will gradually - - or quickly, depending on recent weather - - sink into the ground. And dare you seek to report a hazard to the management, you will be treated as though you are a total bumpkin who just doesn't Understand Fine Things. Um-hmmmm. Could be true. (You DID notice the "Arkansas" part, right?) But I know a lawsuit when I see one laying on the floor. . . . Once back indoors, you will enjoy jockeying with the crowd in the stuffy narrow hall and narrower doors, to get your share of butter cream frosting and salt peanuts. . . I suggest you lay off the alcohol (even though it's free!) until you get safely back around the house to your car or (more appropriately :~) -> home. You're gonna need it! Cheers!!!
