My Grand Daughter and I took my tandem kayak down the river on a rainy Sunday morning. The guys a DRC are very helpful and accommodating. There is a great group of guys that work here who are friendly and very eager to help you and give you information.

If you are staying any where nearby, this is a great day trip. We stayed in one of the cabins at Hanging Rock State Park, and this was the perfect break from hiking everyday. Take your lunch, fishing poles and cooler...stop along the way.

The folks at Dan River Company make getting on the water a pleasure. They offer equipment for those people that need to rent & offer very reasonably priced shuttles for those that have their own gear! After time spent on the water they also have the Green Heron bar & restaurant right on the river. A great place to chill out & on certain days, listen to live music. Check it out!

I really dont have much to judge the company by. I say that because we use all our own gear. We just use their ferry service to the drop off points. They have always gotten us to the drop off points no problem. Moreover, the drop off prices are much more reasonable than when we did the Neuse River in Raleigh with a different company. We have done both the 6 and 13 mile trip. Highly recommend the 13 mile trip. It only adds a couple of hours to the overall experience and is well worth it. DRC does rent kayaks and canoes as well. Just wish they were closer!!

Great business that's been around for years and are expanding from just kayaking and canoe rentals, to having a little restaurant on the river eventually. They've recently added the Green Heron River Club (open to public) which offers local beers and select wines. Still in early stages, but getting there. If you don't have your own kayak, can get pricey, being almost $40 for shuttle ride and kayak rental for 6mile trip. There is also a 13mile available at a higher cost. Shuttle only, if you have your own kayak is around $15. All in all, great place to spend time by yourself or friends/family to get away from the city quickly for an afternoon. Just make sure to call ahead for a reservation time.

We took our dogs along and had a great time. Very laid back environment. Water is a little cool early in the season.

The Dan River Company is an outfitter for paddling along the Dan River in Stokes County, near Danbury. You can rent kayaks from them, or if you have your own boat, they provide shuttle service. The Dan River is a great place to paddle for those who are new to paddling or don't have the skill to paddle harder rivers. But there are enough small easy rapids to make it fun. The Dan River Company is a good outfitter with experienced and helpful staff and reasonable prices. But do call ahead for reservations. There are two trips on the Dan River available - a 6-mile and a 13-mile trip. The six-mile trip takes two to three hours, starting from near the bridge over NC-89 and running along a winding section of the river in the foothills of Hanging Rock back to the outfitters. There are several Class I rapids along this section and Play Wave, a class II near the end. The last section of the river runs through the northern-most part of Hanging Rock State Park along the Dan River Bluffs, high cliffs right along the river. This is definitely the most scenic part of the trip. The thirteen-mile trip starts at Hart's Access at the NC-704 bridge and takes about five to six hours to complete. This run includes the six-mile trip as the second half. This trip is good if you're looking for a full day on the river, but its a long trip, and I was ready to be out of the kayak at the end. If you're pressed for time or don't want sit in a kayak for six hours, the shorter trip includes the most scenic parts and best rapids.
