This lovely house, close to the heart of this charming historic town, was the site of a girls' school before the Civil War. It has been lovingly restored, and contains many mementos of that time. Of particular interest: It is here that Elizabeth Keckley, who would later become a famous Washington dressmaker and confidante of Mary Todd Lincoln, was a house slave for a number of years. The house is open most days, and has docents who will give you a tour. And it is free!
