The museum has everything you need to take your own tourof all the historical sites. From the Hughes Military Academy to the Burwell School and all in between. Love this town. Hope it never changes. Check out the Twin Chimney House and all the signs.

Lots of historical documents/pictures/items. The gentleman there was just full of knowledge. We also walked through the cemetery. Amazing the age of the graves.

What a gem! Great little museum for our almost 6 and 3.5 year old. Scott was a wealth of knowledge that he happily delivered with such enthusiasm! The history in those walls, while it looks like a small amount, was plentiful! We had a wonderful visit!Don't forget to check out the grave if a Founding Father...yes, a signer of the Declaration of Independence is buried right in Hillsborough behind the museum! It was so cool! Hooper is buried in the church cemetery behind the museum.

Everything here is interesting but it feels like you are only skimming the surface of the area's history - particularly the slavery and its aftermath.

Small, rustic wooden building amid garden greenery and flowers...(w/public restrooms) a nice, peaceful introduction to local highlights from Native Americans to Old South. Well-informed, friendly local 'docent' most helpful with good recommendations. Thanks!

This little museum has what many local museums cannot provide, which is historical accuracy developed by knowledgeable trained historians. Of particular interest are the exhibits on textile mills and on the nineteenth century. Sometimes special exhibits upstairs are a little shabby. The museum could stand some money. Be sure to leave a donation.

It was fun to learn more about where we live and this museum did a great job doing that. I would recommend a visit for residents as well as visitors to Hillsborough.

After we visited Philadelphia, we decided to explore some local history and since one of the folks buried at the cemetery there was a signor of the Declaration of Independence we opted to stop in and see what all was there. Scott, the host there, was super nice and gave us background on a lot of the stuff they had on display. If you are a history buff and find yourself walking down Churton St., don't miss it. It doesn't have any ground breaking finds, but things like the drum sticks found on Civil War battle sites are very unique and interesting to see.

An old wooden interior features the doors and windows of past times. Everything is smaller than current interior appointments, but this is the charm of it. There's a neat bookstore with NC memorabilia and historical studies. Much to learn and contemplate. To one side is a sweet herb garden, and then a very clean and pleasat oubuilding which functions as a modern restroom area. This is a good place to park and start a walking tour, then to return after seeing downtown Hillsborough, which is full of historic interest and local charm.

There is only one way to explain.Anyone who has an opportunity, or can create an opportunity, should do so -- just to spend at least a half day at O.C. Historical Museum.By the way, Hillsborough has at least six superb restaurants and an awesome chocolate shop. Early arrivals get seated quickly.
