wine 101

Great shop with many unique wines. Wine tastings also. Prices are about right. Only downside is owner puts his own sticker over UPC so you can not scan the wines in wine apps to learn about wine and what it's price should be.

I have lived in Wake Forest for the past 9 years after moving back to NC from IN. I have bought wine at Seaboard, Wine Merchant, April and George (when it was in business), Total Wine, Whole Foods, Fresh Market, and other retail / grocery shops over the years. All of these pale in comparison to Wine 101 in terms of value, knowledge, selection, and helpful staff. I have been into Wine 101 on numerous occasions with a concept of a wine in my head to get pointed to a mid range price wine that is as good if not better than the higher price bottles sitting next to it on the shelf. Wine 101 is also wiling to purchase specific wines in small orders if you are in search of something special that you may have tried elsewhere and don't see in the store. Also need to mention their beer selection is getting to be as good as the wine selection for most of the same reasons.

If you enjoy wine and/or beer and have not been to 101, you are missing a gem! This local wine shop has great wine, great beer, great staff and great people who frequent the place. Free wine tastings on Fri eve and Sat afternoons, wine events and classes and just really fun and knowledgable folks who want you to enjoy wine and beer. Joe and his staff are some of the most fun and personable folks in Wake Forest and if you know nothing about wine but need to get some for a gift or your mother-in-law,,,,,this is the place to go. A great place to bring out of town folks on a Fri evening or Sat afternoon to taste wine, buy a bottle, and move on to one of the local resturants.
