Thanks for visiting the Chocolate Factory! I apologize for making your experience "unsettling"! Definitely not my intention. As a natural introvert, I just assume that people want to be left alone to enjoy their treats - like I would. That's why they don't let me out of the Factory in back very often! Hopefully next time my wife will be out front instead of me. Then you will definitely feel how much we value our guests like you. We look forward to welcoming you warmly on your next visit!

I finally had the chance to check out Black Mountain Chocolate on Trade Street. I should say right off the bat that I'm a bit biased when it comes to chocolatiers. I fell in love with The Chocolate Fetish in Asheville years ago and tend to compare every new place to them. Overall I would say that Black Mountain is a wonderful addition to Winston-Salem but comes up a little short with regards to variety and atmosphere. When my friend and I walked in we were greeted warmly and we looked around the facility. You can walk past the counter down a hallway to peek into the "factory" through large windows to watch the chocolate being made. It seemed to be less a factory and more like a large kitchen. When we popped in this past Sunday there was only one person in the kitchen and she was dicing some candied fruit. Not exactly riveting. They offer guided tours every other Saturday so I assume that is when it gets interesting. We headed back to the front of the store to check out the offerings. There was a display of different dark chocolate bars with little shavings to sample. I do love a good sample. The actual display case was a bit smaller than I expected and had truffles and macaroons. The truffles were extremely petite but very pretty. The flavors again favored dark chocolate and were not as inventive and I would have liked to have seen. They also offer Gelato, coffee, chai, etc. The one thing I really did enjoy was a sample of the drinking chocolate. It was an Earl Grey Chocolate which was very light and refreshing. I would have liked to have seen a larger variety of products but overall it's a nice place and I'd go back again. Here is their "menu" off their website: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0226/4201/files/BMC_F_K_opening_MENU.pdf?485

If you like chocolate you need to visit Black Mountain Chocolate store and factory. Dark Chocolate fans will love this place. The chocolate bars are out of this world and they have 5 kinds, my favorite if the Cocoa Nib Bar. They have truffles to dies for. Dawn Peters will greet you and Brent, her husband, is the master chocolate maker. Make a reservation on a Saturday morning at 11:00 for a complete tour of the factory. At other times they will let you see through he glass windows. Their daughter Meagan, a graduate Sous Chef, makes some delightful treats. We tried the Cocoa Nib brownie (yummie) and both of the Blondie brownies. And if you like chocolate chip cookies you will just love Meagan's. We also bought some some chocolate croissants, which we have not eaten yet (that come tomorrow morning with coffee).
