The Sage Robinson Nagel House is home to the Vigo County Historical Society and Museum. It's open Tuesday through Sunday from 1pm to 4pm and closed on Monday and all of January. Three floors present Vigo County and Terre Haute history in about 18 separate areas. The highlights include: Military Room (1812 to present), Ladies Dress Shop, toy shop, Bindley Pharmacy collection (early 1900s), Tool room (1880s) displaying carpentry, cabinetry, cobbler, farming implements and tools. See a kitchen wood stove, a kitchen gas stove, a wash boiler, spinning wheels, a loom, horse bridles, tack, saddles and tools of the era. Also, on display see dental instruments from 1900-1910 and thank heaven for your current dentist. Also, medical instruments from the late 1800s give you pause for thought. One hallway is devoted to Coca-Cola. The original bottle was designed here in Terre Haute (winner of the 1915 design competition) by the Root Glass Co. Also see a Victorian master bedroom and child's nursery. A small display of the early history of Saint Mary of the Woods is next to the Christmas display. The museum is clean, fairly well lit with decent signage for each display. Admission is free. Enjoy a walk down memory lane and discover facts you didn't know about where you live.
