朝阳A咖

LeaveNothing

canfitz

ChevyChaseOne

This memorial, unlike so many others, doesn't have the names of battlefields or generals, what is does have are the names of the brave servicemen and women who gave their lives for this country. The black marble panels are inscribed with the names in cronological order are in years that the US was in Viet Nam.

It was the first day where the temps where over 50 so I took a long walk one night to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Moving experience and the only note I will give, is this, go at night. The Mall is safe and the Memorial is surreal at night. Less people also.

I liked this memorial- we went on a nice sunny day; luckily we had a tour where they explained the story of the memorial and its incredibly moving. Make sure to enjoy the moment.

A very powerful monument, especially to those of us who spent time in Nam. 'Simple pieces of Black Granite, with names, dug into the ground', as I heard one visitor say. True, but the impact of the names, what they did and what they died for, provides an overpowering statement. To see all the gifts that are left by visitors (usually family or close friends) reflects the impact of this memorial, and shows that these men are not forgotten. I have many friends names on this wall, the reason I visit whenever I am in the area. I like to visit late at night, when few people are there, and it is quiet, peaceful and solemn. I can sit and reflect on the past in peace, and I swear, watch and speak with the spirits of my comrades and friends. May these men rest in peace with God, and NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
