We hiked across the dam and down into the spillway. There are a couple of waterfalls there, which I am thinking would be spectacular with a bit of water. As it was, there was a trickle from a spring thanks to two years of drought in the area. The trail was easy to follow. Watch out for weeds. We didn't see any ticks.
Camped here for one night. It appealed to me because I just have a car and a tent, and don't like camping near the RVers and their parade of noisy devices.Campground was surprisingly clean for a free one. No alcohol allowed, which I guess makes sense. Camp site included a grill, picnic table and was right on the lake. There are no trash cans: you pack it in, you pack it out.At first I thought I was going to be mostly alone, but a big crowd of people fishing showed up right at sunset, parked right next to me, but only stayed for maybe 30 minutes. Pretty strange. Other campers also showed up later, further away. A little noisy at night, mostly due to the geese. There were a lot of them and, with every little noise, they would honk off for a minute. A lot of people also driving by up to around 11.But, all in all, it was a nice night and a nice site. Lots of trees, lots of stars, the lake, big hills illuminated by the moonlight. What else do you need?
nice little fishing lake. My family likes to camp here, rustic camping. Fishing is usually good. Don't try to swim across, there are currents and people have drowned here. Chase County has many artists and good restaurants, as well as beautiful scenery with the Flint Hills. There is a hiking trail around the lake. They are strict about fishing licenses, so if you don't have one stop somewhere in town and get one before fishing.
It's a lake which is great, but it has nothing to make it stand out as being better than many other little lakes.
I love Chase State Fishing Lake. Hiking around the hills is an experience as you explore around the stone outcroppings and discover the multi-level waterfalls at the outtake end of the lake. Beautiful place!
Always caught fish...each time we went to Chase State Fishing Lake
