We came to Garden City for a dog show and the first day was cancelled due to judges weather related travel issues. So, we needed something to do since we were just hanging out. We went to the zoo and what a pleasant surprise. First of all...it was free to walk thru...$10 per car to drive thru. It was a beautiful day, so we walked the entire zoo. Lots of nice exhibits...elephants, giraffes, lions, big cats, primates, birds, and assorted other exotic animals. All appeared well cared for and had spacious outdoor habitats. For a small town, I was very impressed and would recommend visiting if you get a chance.

I was not expecting much since the zoo is free, but I was very surprised! My three daughters loved it and we had a great time. There are many animals to see and a park to play. For a price, you can rent bikes that seat up to 4 people and there is a train to ride. Definitely worth going to!

The Lee Richard Zoo was very impressive. They had a wide array of animals and great layout. The temperatures were cold when we went so we chose to drive thru the zoo. This was a great feature. We were able to drive to the various parking lots and get out to view the animals. A lot of the animals were very friendly and they came up quite close to us. We'll be sure to visit again during the warmer months.

I've been to many of the large zoos (Baltimore, Denver, St. Louis, Birmingham). For most kids (and many adults, too) half or a third of the size is sufficient. This zoo is superb and inexpensive (free but really worth donating to). This is the zoo we use for field trips for our Christian School instead of going to Denver.

So your in this town in the west-side of Mid-America and you see the flat lands and then BOOM! There is one of the coolest family zoos you will ever find. Free to walk around and just see some of the animals of the world. The giraffe is so cool and close you will be amazed how tall they really are. The Red Pandas are so darn cute. The tortoise is HUGE and will amaze you. This is a MUST SEE in Garden.

I stopped in Garden City as a break on a long cross-country drive. The zoo was free and featured some great exhibits like flamingos and a panda. It was clear and friendly, though the map was a bit hard to navigate.

This is one of the best kept little zoo's we have ever visited. AND IT IS FREE!!! Lots of cool animals, lots of trees for a shaded break from the sun, cool multi-person pedal bikes you can rent, a fully stocked snack bar with tons of stuff to purchase that is zoo/animal related too. They have numerous functions at this zoo also. Lots of musical events and fund raising community events. You MUST check it out!

The zoo in Garden City Kansas is an extremely nice place to visit. The zoo has plenty of shade trees and benches if you want to sit and relax. It is easy to get around and the animal pens are very well made and maintained. You can tell that a lot of pride goes in caring for the property and animals.

The animals actually had decent sized enclosures. I hate zoos but the granddaughter loved it since she's so young. They really have a great elephant exhibit.

This is a great zoo in a small town. There are large exhibits that exceed expectations with elephants, bears, birds, giraffes, monkeys and much more. We had planned to stop at the excellent historical society museum next door and ended up staying much longer than we planned due this zoo. I think it rivals some big city zoos. Based on the fact that we ended up getting to our next destination hours later than we planned, I have to rate this zoo 5 stars.

There's not a lot to do in Garden City, KS. My family was there for a week for business. While my wife worked I had to find something to do to entertain our 2 year old son. Somebody recommended the local zoo! What a surprise! We thoroughly enjoyed this zoo. It had all the essentials. Laid out well. Wide selection of animals. Beautiful grounds. We even got to see the world's largest hairball! We went 3 times more that week! I can't recommend it highly enough!

Why pay to drive through the Zoo when you'll see so much more walking. One of the best Zoos I've seen. Better than the Zoo here in my home town.Animal variety and selection is wonderful. The animals are well cared for and energetic. The exhibits are designed to allow for up close but safe viewing. The aviary was very interesting and enjoyable.

It’s a gem tucked away in what is mostly a waste of a town. You can tell the wide array of animals are really cared for by nice people, and it’s a huge benefit to the community that they don’t charge admission. I used to jog around it when we lived in GC and always enjoyed my time there.
