This museum is rich with stories of local home owners in the area and small towns that are a part of the Clinton/Wakarusa communities and the freedom fighters/underground railroad 'Angels' that helped shelter slaves and get them closer to their freedom.Centered around the homestead of Col. J.C. Stelle - whose home was saved due to its historical significance to house the original museum. Unfortunately, the home was doomed for its demise due to vandalism and the museum was moved to the newly renovated Dairy Barn that was part of the homestead. Though the house itself is no longer. A portion of the home-made, hand-fired brick wall (with Wakarusa clay) was retained and is on display in front of the Dairy Barn and today's museum. The cornerstone and original steps and part of the original foundation are still present. This place is worth the stop whether you are a local resident or visiting from out of town. Don't forget to leave a donation.
