I love Clinton State Park. It is great for hiking, bike riding, bbqing, camping, hanging out with friends and relaxing. There is also a park bench at the top of one of the hills that overlooks a large portion of the lake. This bench is one of my favorite spots in Lawrence. The lake is fairly large for being in Kansas. I would highly recommend you go here if you are into being outdoors. I use to go every few weeks while living in Lawrence.
My friend and I went there and felt it an amazing little park for bbq and hanging out for a day with friend and family. Love the fresh air and beautiful lake.
My sister and I took our dogs to the off-leash dog area here on Nov. 30th. What an awesome, huge area! There are no toys or obstacles but the park has plenty of sticks for free play and fetch. Fence all around with no weak spots that our dog found (she is an escape artist!). There is a vault toilet in that parking lot if you absolutely need to use it, but I didn't notice if there was a water spigot or not. We brought water for our dogs but if you didn't have any on hand it could get dicey in hot weather.
We live fairly close to Clinton Lake so come here for various purposes. This time was for a nice gathering of vintage Aristocrat campers. The campground is always well cared for. The bathrooms could have used a little more attention but they were certainly not the worst I've seen. The hiking trails throughout the park are great for serious hikers or just folks out for a stroll. The ONLY "issue" I have with the park is you are required to pay a day pass of $5.00 (or $25 for an annual) that IS NOT included in your camping fees.
We visited on a Monday afternoon in August to go to Bloomington Beach. There was a small unattended self-pay station at the beach where you are supposed to pay a day use fee of $1/person (maximum $4/vehicle) if you're not camping in the campgrounds. We paid our small usage fee and parked in the large parking lot. There was hardly anyone else there so we felt like we had the entire beach to ourselves. We took advantage of the nice weather and jumped in the lake for a swim and later laid out on the beach relaxing for awhile. There were restrooms and showers in the parking area as well as smaller showers closer to the beach that could be used to rinse off any sand. The beach is open from May until September (8AM - 10PM).
Clinton State Park has a few perks. The dog park is not well kept and would not go out of my way to visit. The lake itself is ok but I do not prefer boating. The nature & horse trails around the park are slightly better than a deer trail. In particular, the George Latham Trail is sadly a disappointment. If you are planning to visit it, please use insect repellant and bring a stick to clear the spider webs that will block your path every 15 feet. This trail is the closest nature trail and the least likely I will ever revisit.
We only went there to try out the repair on the boat and it was only an hour from Leavenworth.Booked in for two nights and an R.V. pitch was only $18 per night(electric/water).fishing was good and we caught enough for a meal fresh catfish and bass.I did catch a 6/7 pound Carp but they tend to be a bit "muddy" in taste.Great two nights at this lovely site
This is a very beautiful state park! We have enjoyed our stay & admired the scenery. We enjoy camping snuggled within the trees so we did not reserve a site ahead of time. We drove the loops & picked our site when we got here. Wasn't a problem since it was not a holiday or busy weekday. We noticed many sites with few or no trees and many with a average amount of trees. But the best was In Loop #3 even numbers along the waters bluff. So, We picked open site #146!
An array of trails - good for walkers, as well as cyclists. The views are superb - in the forests, overlooking the lake, and along the prairie-grass vales. Easily accessible from the downtown of old Lawrence. For those with dogs, there is a dedicated location for dog walks. And, all of this does not even mention the delights to those who may want to boat - or camp. (That would be for other reviewers to comment.)
Rented a pontoon boat at the Clinton Lake Marina for the day. Holds 10 people for a cost of $350.00 plus gas. One can boat the entire lake and still have plenty of time for a swim off the boat.
Clinton State Park Camp Ground was a very nice facility. I do think that the position of your site would make a difference in how much you enjoyed it. We had a very lovely site that was wooded and backed up to the lake. There was quite a bit of room between us and the next site. There was a laundry facility that was very clean. A central dump station was the only draw back, rather than full hook ups at sites.
Facilmente acessível a partir do centro de Lawrence antiga. Para aqueles com cães, existe um local dedicado para passeios para cães.
