For years, I took my 3rd graders to this museum for field trips. The display on the main floor of all kinds of wildlife is worth the trip. Commache, the horse from the Battle of Little Big Horn is a great display. There are various displays of wildlife from Kansas. Snakes, fish and other live animals are very interesting. The display of fossils is wonderful. Cat skeletons and other skeletons are a winner for all. Definitely great for kids.

4 floors of natural history, many fossils, many animals, many explanations of the evolution of species, etc. Free (donations accepted), worth an hour of visiting.

I have been visiting the museum since I've been young and now i take my children and nieces. The museum has something for every age group. Some interactive areas, live animals, and fossil displays. Plan on spending at least 2 hours.

We stopped at the Natural History Museum on our way to uptown. It was very interesting with many displays, including Commanche. Commanche was the only survivor of the true military engagers of the Battle of Little Big Horn. A very interesting story. While at the museum, you will find four floors with much to look at, read about and do. We were there a little over an hour and could have spent more time. It is on the KU Campus in a very nice older building known as Dyche Hall. There is no fee, but please leave a donation so that the museum can continue to operate and grow for future visitors.

I really dont think many people know what a gem of a museum they have right in their own back yard. Would love to know how many students go there. Anyway, it is a fun place to take kids and grandkids on a day out. Exhibits are very interesting.

This little museum in the old radio station at Lawrence is worth a look. They also have a blacksmith exhibition with demonstrations on certain times throughout the year. It is run by volunteers who do a fabulous job & are a wealth of information

Having moved here from Nebraska via Missouri, I was pleased to find this museum to learn more about Kansas and to share it with my children.

The diorama is fantastic, especially from the above view. I won't spoil the other exhibits. We felt a little spoiled since the Sternberg in Hays much of the same big fish, but of course here has much much more.

...and you can do all your Christmas shopping in the gift shop. Winner. Also, entrance fee is a donation, so you can pay what it's worth. If you're broke, go in for free and send a donation later.

Dyche Museum was my favorite place to go as a child. The same is true for my children. Visitors may view the stuffed remains of Comanche, the horse ridden into the Battle of Little Bighorn by Myles Keough. The dioramas are beautiful and interesting, especially the one that can also be viewed looking down from the floor above. The live snakes, especially the venomous ones, and the dinosaur skeletons on the lower floor are attractions my sons especially loved. I customarily take our out-of-town visitors to Dyche Museum. Another plus: Dyche is a beautiful, historic building on a campus of beautiful, historic buildings.

This is a good museum for rainy/snowy day, as it has some interesting things in it.But overall it is a bit gloomy and feel somewhat outdated in today's nice museums.

I've been to the Natural History Museum lots of times! Kids will enjoy it, and adults. It's worth a visit!

A nice family attraction. Three floors, well organized. Loved the dinosaur skeleton, the bee house with outside access, the taxidermy animals and the various snakes & birds downstairs. Very interesting!

Dated exhibits. Department of Paleontology shares the space. With a large student population to help refurbish exhibits, and knowledgeable professors and staff , there is no excuse for such out of date and out of touch exhibits. The scavenger hunt for kids was useful and entertained the kids. The insect zoo was laughable, few insects, dead insects, etc. In short, worth a visit if you have children. Visit time - an hour at best, then boredom sets in. KU get serious about the place or close it. The Kansas History Museum in Topeka shows what can be done, and should be done here. Professors, professional staff, and KU students --- volunteer to make this a better example of what KU and the JayHawks are about.
