It's nice to see that at the geographical center of the continental USA, there is a church. The tiny little is pretty cool and you can practice your preaching skills to 4 empty pews (unless you bring your own congregation). The place is a little difficult to find, but it's nice and quiet and pretty cool.
On our way home from Colorado we took the long way back and made time to stop. I didn't realize there was a chapel when we stopped at the Geographical Center of the U.S. What a nice surprise! It's charming.
It's kind of humbling to sit in the deafening silence of the center of the United States. This nation is incredibly vast and places like this keep that in perspective. Worth a detour and a stop.
Something to say you've done. As a city girl I found the area's wheat fields and quiet so serene. I could hear the lyrics of "America" running through my mind..... "Oh, beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain..."
Because we have ancestors who lived in the Smith Center area, we decided to take in the sights. We joked about whether there would be anyone there to take our picture at the chapel and geographic center sign. When we drove up there was a woman taking a break from her day, and who gladly took our picture. The chapel is tiny and quaint. We thought it was one of those small world instances to find someone there the afternoon of a cold and blustery day.
The geographic center of the continental United States is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but it's worth a trip to say you've been here.
Center yourself in the Geographic Center of the U.S. This chapel overlooking miles of prairie and photographer's dream of a horizon line is a tiny reminder of God's greatness. So glad people were moved to put this little resting place right where they did.
How beautiful to come upon this tiny little chapel located at the center of the continental United States. There's a welcome mat at the door, some tiny pews to say a prayer, a Bible on the podium, and small wooden crosses that visitors are invited to take. We were truly blessed to spot the sign as we were driving by, it was a pleasant stop on our travels.
What does one do when at, or near the center of the Continental U.S.? Give thanks! Honor the faith it took to form this nation? Marvel at where we live and all the wonder, amazing variation, and reflect on how blessed we really are. Why not a chapel? Give thanks to The ONE who gave it all!
I've been there twice this summer. Once during the day and once at night to see the stars. There's very little light pollution.so it was great seeing the night sky. Very cute little chapel and it looks like an area where some couples get married. Worth the trip.
The geographical center of the Continental United States is just north of Lebanon, Kansas. There is a very small chapel, a marker and sign with flag poles, and a shelter building with tables. I wish we would have thought to bring a picnic lunch, because once you're there and have taken pictures and read the information, that's it. But, it's still something to say you've been there.A sign says that Lebanon, KS has souvenirs, and maybe they did in the past but my cousin and I drove through and didn't find anything in this small town that looked like a grocery, shop, or convenience store.
