While driving to Beloit, stopped to visit the Angel Museum, which is easy to find on a main street in the town. We enjoyed looking at this vast collection, took a few pictures, and saw a few angels that I had never seen before. One of the things that I really enjoyed particularly in this museum was a section that was devoted to Angels that have been donated to this museum from various people that have passed on. In their memory, their family or friends have brought an Angel to the museum, and share their loved one's fondness for the beauty of Angels. The people who have passed collected and enjoyed these Angels, and the ultimate gift to share with everyone would truly make the passed collector very happy because their enjoyment will be enjoyed by many. Those Angels are displayed lovingly and with small note cards naming the person in their memory. It was quite emotional for me, my mother collected Angels and passed away last year. I will continue to have a special appreciation for the beauty of Angels. So if you go, note that they are only open three days of the week...Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 10:00 AM. They have a gift shop, but it wasn't open the day we went. They were short on help that day. Some of the reviews on Tripadvisor said that the museum was free, but there was an admission fee. Angel lovers, go enjoy!
Visit it with friends from Beloit. Fascinating to see all the different typ of angels. Before voting here I didn't know that Opera Winfrey had got involved in finding black Angels, that she had donated. I and my wife had the good luck to meet Joyce, the owner of the collection who let us take a photo of her in her angel costym.
I had never heard of this museum, but when a sister-in-law suggested the visit, I checked the website information, and became interested. One cannot imagine there could be so many angel figurines in one location, each different. We were offered a free guided tour, and were grateful; we would have missed so much, without the tour. Our guide shared stories, and directed us to observe unique details about the angels. The "Oprah" part of the collection is amazing, as well as imagining how one goes about preserving such a collection. We spent about 1 1/2 hrs at the museum, which is in a perfect setting; walking along the beautiful waterfront, behind the museum, added a special touch to our afternoon.
Yep, this is a huge collection of angels. arranged by style. Porcelain angels, glass angels, baby angels, christmas angels, animal angels....angels for each month.. who KNEW there were so many angels. It is housed in a beautiful old church, staffed by a volunteer (who was super friendly with us) and well worth the trip. Others have covered the history of the place. If you are in Beloit, stop in. We spent maybe half an hour or 45minutes--just to get a flavor of the place and I am glad we did. If you are an angel or collection fanatic you could spend much longer.
We visited this museum on May 30th. It has free parking, they give discount for active military and AAA-members and there is an elevator so you can go to the shop with a wheelchair. In an old church, built by Italian immigrants, Joyce Berg's collection is exhibited. After the death of the pastor, the church got in disuse. Joyce found it the ideal place to let enjoy the public of her angels collection, which already includes more than 10,000 angels. We were given a guided tour by Sallie. She showed and explained the most remarkable specimens: like the angel that started it all, the angels with a devil, the 10,000th angel, ... We liked the tour. Without the explanation it would be only showcases with a lot of angels.
i took my girls here ..and my bff.. i have never seeen so many angels, any avid angel collector will love this place!!!! they even have an opera winfrey angel!!!
The Angel Museum of Beloit is nearby Beloit College and shouldn't be missed on a tour of the city. Many of the angels were donated to the museum and it's quite an interesting place to visit. Oprah Winfrey donated a large number of angels to the museum as well!
My daughter & I brought my mother to the Angel Museum as a surprise for her birthday. She loves angels and collects them also. I like angels but not like my mother & I even really enjoyed it. We live about an hour and a half away but it was definately worth the trip. The guide we had made the visit absolutely enjoyable. Thank you Sallie for the time you spent with us. We are already discussing when we can make a return visit. We also enjoyed the gift shop. Thank you Angel Museum for letting me give my mom a special birthday and one she will never forget.
Amazing collections of angels large and tiny, including Oprah's donation of her colored angels. Let the friendly volunteers tell you the many stories that go with each and every one of them!
The Angel Museum is quite good fun . Of course it's kitschy, with hundreds of angel figures and so on, but it's quite cute and well displayed, and the fact that it's located in a former church adds to the effect. There are few tourist attractions in the area to begin with, so if you are passing through town you should consider coming to take a look.
I was not a big fan of the Angel Museum. I know I am not in its target demographic, and I am sure there are people who would enjoy it, but just thought I should post what it is. The Angel Museum is an old church that has been converted to a museum, and has hundreds of ceramic and glass angels on display. It reminded me of my grandmothers curio cabinet on steroids.
I thought the Angel Museum was GREAT! An old church remodeled to house all those angels is a perfect setting for such a collection. Everyone who's in the area of Beloit, WI should visit it. The price is right and the history is rich. Enjoy!
