The Wilderness Walk is something fun and different to do in Hayward! For the price it is a great deal. You are able to get up close to many different animals. They have a wide variety and the place is small enough for kids and adults to walk around in about 1.5 hours. You can feed baby deer which is really fun! They have a petting zoo which is very kid friendly. Go there when the weather is nice because everything is outdoors.
Great to see all the animals kids had fun! wish they had more options for food. we will keep going .We Love that you still can enjoy watching all the Free roaming animals and the Gold Panning
I went awhile back and this place was packed . Lots of screaming and kids running and having a good time . There were some animals roaming around loose ( friendly ) some to be fed and plenty big ones you wouldn't expect in a zoo of this size . Kids really seemed to like this place . As some of the other reviewers have said it is an old fashioned zoo . Some of the animals are in the old fashioned cage , rather than a carefully sculpted environment that newer zoos offer . So , you kinda get that sad feeling looking at some of the animals . If you're an animal lover like me , you know what I mean .
I've wanted to go there for awhile, but felt it would be more fun with a little one along so when my friend had her grandson for a week, we took him there. So much fun watching through the eyes of an almost 3 year old. Nice collection of animals, not too much walking.
Wilderness walk is a fun place to take the family. There's a petting zoo, larger animals including tiger, bear, camel, etc, but the unfortunately, the cages are very small. There are several animals just wandering around. Goats to be fed, a mystery house, panning for gold, and other activities. Fun way to spend a day when it's not so perfect to be on the lake. It is a little on the pricey side for admission
Felt very sorry for the animals here. Some of the enclosures were incredibly small for the large animals with almost no places for them to take cover. A lot of the animals had to lay on concrete floors and the enclosures were close to barren. I've never been so sorry to go to a zoo plus the admission cost was pretty high, were does the money go? The wolves looked very scared, they could not get away from the view of the public. The tiger and cougar and bear cages were incredibly small. The animals had nothing to do. I was ashamed to go here.
Very fun thing to do with your kids. The only thing about this place was how small the animals cages are. And to me, this is the most important thing of all. We should let our kids know that this is not sutible for wild animals. The deer have it easy... They can roam around as they please. I feel sorry for most of the animals.
This is a fun place for little kids, with lots of animals--many of which you can feed and touch--, a playground, silly cutouts to take pictures in, a "maze" building, a gold panning area, etc. There may be mixed feelings from the adults considering the large animals they have in small enclosures, but if you can look past that it is a fun family stop.
A nice place to take the family while on a family vacation with younger children in the northwest area of Wisconsin. The up close time that you get to experience with the animals and the chance to feed some deer, goats etc. are memories that you will talk about when you get home. Don't forget your camera when you visit.
This zoo allows you to get up close with the animals. We pet skunks, bunnies, deer, along with the usual host of farm critters. The cages were clean and well tended. A fun area is included with a "mystery house," maze, and other great activities for the kids with an old west theme. Definitely recommend this place.
I have been going to the Wilderness Walk since I was a little girl. It is awesome to now take my own children. The nursery was great! It was feeding time so the boys got to help feed fawns a bottle. They loved it! The rest of the animals were also very cool to see. We had a blast!
We loved this place. The animals are so much fun. Workers were friendly and helpful when asked questions. So much to see and do here. Will go back next time we are in the area.
This zoo is one of our favorites. We love the nursery petting zoo, feeding the trout, that you can pet the deer they have roaming free and that you can buy corn to feed some of the animals. My son loves the western town, especailly the maze building and eventhough the playground is not that great he seems to love it. Panning for cold is the way to cool off if its a hot day. The only thing not to love is the arcade area. The games rarely all work and no one cares if they "eat" your coins so stay away from that area and your golden.
Fun family atmosphere with much to do and many animals with a petting zoo! I got some amazing family photos but can't download them right now :( Wonderful place to go and good customer service also!
For a moderate fee, they have a variety of wild animals and some domestic that are available to be petted. You walk through on a trail which can extend through a wooded area if you want walk farther. That extended trail has signs that teach about the trees and the area. There is a fun gravity house, a few mining town type exhibits and the kids can pan for gold. Those gold nuggets can be traded in at the saloon. We just got a sucker the last time we were there. The saloon serves food and beverages and has a gift shop. There is also a picnic area with a play ground. You can carry in a lunch. We spent a few hours there and enjoyed ourselves.
