The New Hope-Lambertville Toll Supported Bridge is a very cool Truss style bridge for bridge lovers and leads to a nice town to spend some time with family and friends.
This bridge brings back so many memories of the days when my friends and I would cross out of PA into NJ where the drinking age was 18. (1980's). It was our symbol of youth crossing over into adulthood, many a night was spent walking or driving to and from Jersey and this wonderful bridge was our escape point, and our welcome home point of our youth. Love this bridge and all of the ghost of our past that still linger there to this day.
This little bridge is really amazing and fun. The rushing river below and the shaking of the cars makes it a great way to stroll from one state to another literally. On either side there are ducks that enjoy a treat. Lots of locals with dogs that are sweet and tolerant of the visitors stopping on the narrow walkway.
this is a wider then some other options to crossing the Delaware. Safe and kept clear of debris. It is a lovely view of the whole area. Both sides of the river and affords a great view for miles.
Just a great bridge to walk across from New Hope to Lambertville and take pictures. When you get to Lambertville you take a right and you can feed the ducks with your little ones. So being some bread and throw a piece in and they'll come to you. The scenery off the bridge is beautiful so being your cameras. A fun thing to do.
The New Hope-Lambertville Bridge is the connection between these two charming cities, situated in scenic Bucks County. Originally a wooden covered bridge, the current structure is a wide steel bridge that has both traffic and pedestrian options. Despite the "official" name ("toll supported bridge") locals call it the free bridge because no toll is charged. The best way to experience the bridge is to walk across from NJ to PA or vice versa. A new addition is the state line, painted to delineate when you cross from one state to the other. Both directions have lovely scenic views, and in summer swans and turtles are generally easy to spot along the way. In winter, it is still scenic, but be forewarned, walking across the bridge can be quite windy, so wear appropriate winter gear.
The toll bridge costs $1.00 and is only collected one way (South) The toll collectors are friendly. Be careful driving 202 North...A lot of cops sit on that road!
It is a bridge that connects two towns on opposite sides of the river. Foot traffic is free. Cars pay. An attraction per se it is not. As a useful bit of transportation it fills the bill and binds the towns close together.
Pros- a short walk with ample space and a beautiful view of the Delaware RiverCons- noneOverall I'd give it a walk if visiting!
When you walk across this bridge you cross the Delaware River from New Jersey to Pennsylvania or visa versa., It is not a long walk and when we went in the summer it was somewhat crowded. The Towns that border the bridge are Lambertville NJ. and New Hope PA. i prefer Lambertville, I find it a more charming place and less touristy. You can park on the side streets or there is metered parking on the Main Street.
When you walk across this historic bridge, you are crossing the Delaware (just like Washington!), There are great shops and restaurants on both sides of the bridge.
What a nice way to walk from New Hope to Lambertville. The bridge connects you to the heart of each town and is just lovely.
Take the exit before the toll. Have a nice drive through Lambertville, head over the bridge and you're in New Hope. No toll leaving New Hope.
if you are travelling on RT 202 and do not want to go through the twin riverside villages of New Hope (Penna) and Lambertville (NJ), take this Toll Bridge. Its FREE to leave PA but if travelling from NJ, its $1.00 toll.
Busy New Hope was way too hectic for us on a summer Saturday so we strolled over the bridge to the NJ side, and it was a lovely, scenic walk back and forth. Plus it was free which is a big bonus considering you can pay $20 to just park in New Hope. The Lambertville side was more relaxing and the train station was very picturesque. I’d highly recommend making time to walk across the bridge and explore the other side for a while.
