There are 2 courses - one is older and more traditional (trees and lots of sand), the other is more open, but challenging. Both were thoroughly enjoyable and worth the money.

We had a golf vacation and played both courses at Penn National: Iron Forge and Foundry. These are great and beautiful golf courses! We stayed at a hotel about 20 minutes away from the club house. These courses are set in the rolling farmland of Pennsylvania and are different from each other but complementary. One (Foundry) is a parkland style course and the Iron Forge is more open and links-like (but not a true links course). We would play there again!

Both courses are wonderful to play and they are in the valley just off the Appalachian Trail and mountains. Also an exceptional community to live in. Though a Fayetteville mailing address, closer to small town of Mont Alto, PA. Wonderful orchards and farm fields around.

Two great courses too play. Very well cared for golf courses, they have many stay over rooming areas for groups that want to spend time.

There are two golf courses and each one is totally different. The views on both courses are magnificent. The Old Forge course is a lot more challenging. They also have a very good restaurant at the club house. Any golfer would enjoy playing either of the courses. Several of the U.S. Presidents have played here and highly enjoyed it.

After looking around for many years my wife and I decided to visit Penn National. At first it seemed rather remote but upon further research we found a wonderful community and beautiful setting. Since I'm a golfer I played both courses and fell in love with each one for it's own attributes. Founders is a tough tree lined old style course while Iron Forge is an open links style course. Both are well maintained and golf trips will enjoy staying at the Inn and having the option of breakfast in the morning. Now, not only do I have an annual fall classic at Penn National, but the guys stay in our new house that we built in the community. Ahhhhh...

My group of eight guys just completed our golf trip (4.5 rounds) for the 9th year (August 6 - August 8) at Penn National. I echo everything that AlanBeautifulPlace wrote below on May 4 so no need to repeat. I will add the following:- Both courses were in immaculate condition from tee to green.- The greens on Iron Forge are bent grass (so said the starter). We found it very difficult to get the speed right. It seemed that in order to get a true roll, it was necessary to putt the ball firmly otherwise it would fall prey to the grain and subtle breaks. - The greens on Founders were poana (I think I was told that) which is what I am used to on Long Island.- Every staff member is incredibly nice!

While neither I nor my husband play golf, many of our neighbors are golfers. They love playing on both courses (Founders and Iron Forge). Each year several tournaments are played here, and golfers come from surrounding states to use the facility. Beautiful and well maintained greens.

We live very close to Penn National and take it for granted. It is an excellent course, two courses actually. The original course, The Founders, is a good challenge to even the best golfer, and Iron Forge is set like an European course with tall grass rough, but who hits a ball there? Both courses are an excellent challenge.

Penn National is a self supporting golf club, open to the public, and kept in superb shape. The old course (Founders) is tree lined, with good greens, and excellent fairways. It is a true test of a golfers talents. The Iron Forge Course is a links-type layout with few trees and beautiful views of the rolling countryside in the rural Fayetteville/Mont Alto area. Each course has unique holes and a few with water. Reduced green fees can be obtained by planning your golf outing properly. It is worth the trip to experience these courses.

Nice greens ball rolls true nice pro shop and if you like links golf they have the iron forge corse. The founders course is great and challenging tight fairways and the views are awesome.

Been here since the late 50's. The Founder's Course is the original - a "traditional" course. Well laid out and very well maintained. The Old Forge course is much newer and is a links course. This course is becoming very popular; well maintained and, like the Founder's, well laid out.The club house has a restaurant. No bar because the township is dry. It is, though, a BYOB. Food is above average. There's a separate inn offering rooms and Penn National offers golf packages. Outdoor pool, tennis courts.It is a "golf community" with some 1,000 homes spread out over many acres.

The two courses are always in great shape. The rough is very thick and the greens are always nice. These are must plays if you are in the area. The golf packages are great.

I have been going to the Penn National golf course resort since 2002 with several groups of golfers. During the past 11 years, I have gone there 7 times and have enjoyed it every time I went. There are two golf courses; the Founders course is a traditional golf course with trees, sand, water and an absolutely stunning series of holes you have to manage to score well and to keep your golf balls. Regardless of your golf handicap, you will love this course; Iron Forge is the second course and this one is a links course featuring rolling hills, spectacular views and wide open fairways, but as in most links course, when the wind is up, your game is open to the elements.The resort itself is located close to Gettysburg which is worth a visit for history lovers. The rooms you stay at are in several buildings that are well maintained but not very modern. The rooms are normally a two person occupancy and have two double beds, kitchen sink, small fridge, microwave, a shaving sink and a small bathroom with toilet, sink and bath/shower.The rooms are clean and serviced every day. Each building eight rooms on two floors. Each building has a cooler with ice outside to help you fill your coolers or mix drinks. The coolers are always full of ice. Each building has plenty of patio chairs and some inside group seating areas although some of the buildings have smaller areas. The golf courses and the Inn are separate but you can book your golf package through the Inn staff and they will organize an envelope with all your golf passes and your dining vouchers.The dining room is in the golf club house. The service is very good, gratuities are included in the package pricing although you may leave a few dollars a person for better than average service which you will often get. The food is in general very good, and there are always a special dish or two that are included with your package. The menu has non-priced items that come with your package as well as some specialty items you have to pay for. The salad bar is very good and there are several deserts to pick from. This year we noticed a bit of a drop in the variety of fruit in the morning and also a few of the dinner options were not what we considered to par with past years. Although the last dinner we had was excellent.Great value for money. Penn National is located in a non-drinking county, which means you cannot buy alcohol there, but you can bring your own both on the course and in the kitchen. You are provided with ice and coolers on the course for your drinks and the dining room will open your wine and give you glasses.

My friends and I play here every year as part of a guys weekend away. We usually play both courses. I prefer the Iron Forge even though it plays long because its pretty wide open.....watch out for the pin placement on 18 - that 2-tiered green is very tricky. Founders plays much shorter, but lots of trees that I've lost many a ball in. The par 3 17th is the signature hole and the best place for a little friendly wagering.Either way, you can't go wrong - they're both extremely well maintained. Hit' em long and straight...
