We went to a show after a snowfall in the area. The first row parking area is paved, and there is more paved parking down the road, but when temps are in the single digits, who wants to walk a distance. The venue is nice, but they sell beverages and there are no cup holders in the seating area. Their lobby is extremely small, so try not to arrive too early and be claustrophobic. I like the closeness of the stage to the viewer, because hearing the actors is vital to the script. They were able to book Mary McDonnell and David Strathairn, both accomplished movie actors, so obviously the acting community takes this as a serious venue. The one very negative thing, which was mentioned in another review, is that the company has a way of nagging you over and over again, via repeated phone calls, to buy tickets and packages to future events. It can be very annoying and bothersome, and I had to ask them not to call.
Being local to the theater, we wanted to support them. We have attended two shows here. Both performances were wonderful. The actors were so impressive and it was a nice venue. That being said, the management of the theater is atrocious. The first time we attended one show. The theater kept calling us afterward and I finally had to tell them to take us off their list. They called at least once a week! Recently we took our kids to see the holiday pantos. Again, wonderful performance. So, we decided we wanted to give them another try. Maybe they got better on the business side. I just called to subscribe with their promotion of "Buy one subscription, get one free". Don't be fooled. The second is NOT free. They raise the prices but don't tell you until you call. Note this offer is not available online. Huh. So, we will not be subscribing and I feel badly for the actors here. Buyer beware with this theater.
Very talented individuals and the costumes were great. However, it seems as though they cater to the annual patronage rather than a first timer to see shows. While trying to see something new and local I found the staff unfriendly and took themselves way to seriously for a small theater in the burbs. I would have liked to promote this place freely but didn't feel any support for the social media realm.
Well designed theater with excellent productions. Good restaurant on site. Price friendly with a varied production schedule. Probably the best theater outside of Philly.
My wife and I went to see the play Fences the weekend of 9/27/14 at People Light and Theater. Another great presentation by the Theater company and staff. A terrific performance and good acting in a wonderfully intimate playhouse. I would recommend this to anyone looking to have an enjoyable evening out with friends or loved ones. Reasonable pricing, courteous staff and a very nice but not posh facility. The actors for this play have done a fantastic job as I always expect when I go there. Another job well done.
Went to a wedding here and although the venue was the service from mgmt. was unsatisfactory for a catered event especially a wedding. Usually, for weddings mgmt. does everthing within reason to see to it that the event is spcial. Nope not this place. The servers were great, really friendly but the cash bar service and service from mangers for the money this place cost should have been way better. It's almost as if they didn't want to help at all. Not once did the greet anyone or smile and that can damper the mood of a joyful event. Oh and the food...AWFUL. They didn't prepare very well for this event because they were sending out food raw when it was running out. You would think being in a nice area like Malvern, this wouldn't be but I guess not. Good Custom Service in included in the price of the venue.
Th e People's Light consists of two theaters, The Leonard C. Hass Stage, with 340 seats, and the Steinbridge Stage, with 160. Both are cozy and intimate, and make the shows very enjoyable. They have always been run very efficiently, even in deep snow! We have been here several times over the last few years for plays, musicals and even a traditional pantomime. We have never been disappointed with the evening or matinee performances. The complex has a large off-road parking lot and is easy to find. Highly recommended.
People's Light is a handsome theater, with no bad seats. We have attended a number of shows there over the years, and enjoyed them all. Since it is a repertory company, it is always interesting to see the actors in different roles from show to show. The holiday season pantos are lots of fun, and we enjoyed taking our grandchildren to see them.
Another fantastic production at People's Light. The set was spectacular and really neat how they made it echo as if it was a large church. Clever and entertaining show - go see it if you can!
Very interesting shows and very high quality. People who work there are very nice and helpful. They have a nice restaurant on site as well.
I do not believe that this show was still running, but it was fantastic! The set was amazing, and the theater set up was very cool. I have seen a selection of shows from the theater throughout the years, and all were fantastic.
I went to see Woody Sez at this show as a friendly acquintance directed the piece. I really enjoyed the show which was wonderful as I expected but what was a real treat was the restaurant on the grounds. Not only was the menu themed to the show but the food was excellent. I went to 2 Iron Chef restaurants during my stay in the area & this restaurant was their equal!!!
We have seen many great shows in this setting over the years. There is a good range of material, some classic, some brand new. The most recent was a tribute to Woody Guthrie told primarily thru the music (lots of fun) played by this talented cast. The story line keeps you interested. Seats are comfortable. Small snack bar. Easy parking. Curtain usually 7:30 and saves the trip to Center City (traffic, parking). Well worth at least one visit, and maybe even a season, especially if you live or work in the western suburbs.
My husband and I have been season members of this theatre in years past and really loved every show we attended. No matter the subject matter or the seat location, the theatre company pits on a quality performance from over-the-top funny to dark and mysterious, we left satisfied everytime. Arrive on time or early so you can be seated without disturbing others as the aisles and rows are tightly placed together. Both theatres are small and we prefer the Main Stage over the other smaller theatre at the rear. Affordable prices and excellent adaptations.
One of the most consistent theaters in the Philadelphia region. Top-notch actors, detailed and often large-scale designs and solid plays choices. Two very nice theaters allow them to run shows almost continuously. The play choices may not be the most exciting (it is in the suburbs) but there is a often very meaty classic scripts.
