this one of the best trips i have ever done. white water rafting was a blast. the guide in our boat was a blast and really showed us a good time

A friend of mine from the Benscreek Canoe Club forgot his pfd, which was bad since he was instrumental in a sponsored trip down the lower Yough. A staff member of your business lent him one so he could continue down the river with the rest of the group. How very kind. River folk are the best.

Let me start by saying we went with White Water Adventurers in a package deal with the Yough Plaza hotel. Leave everything you value in your car- believe the guides when they tell you this is a great idea. Rings are likely to fall off when your fingers get cold and you don't want to worry about anything other than holding onto your paddle. We had to drive to check in where all of the rafting companies have their equipment. You will leave your car keys with the employees. WWA was smart because they provided a badminton net and rackets for those of us who were waiting. My kids had a riot! Next, we received our rafting equipment (a life vest and helmet) and rode the bus back to town where we were given a humorous and helpful orientation. I especially liked the fact that Megan, one of our guides, was an EMT. All of the guides were very friendly and attentive and we felt 100% safe on this trip. During the trip the guides gave us an overview of how to best maneuver each set of falls and they were stationed within the falls to provide hand signals and encouragement. Lunch is more like a snack- a small tortilla with cheese, meat, lettuce, and tomato along with a cookie, an apple, and orange Kool-aid or water. To be honest I wouldn't have wanted to eat much more. Our guides were Scott, Megan, Scott, Dale, and "Smiley." The guides were great with our teens. Know that you will get drenched and that falling out is not a crisis but an adventure. After the trip you will be brought back to your car by bus. Be sure to bring towels so you can dry off before you get back in your car. There are shower facilities and bathrooms where you park. I would also recommend water shoes. (We still cannot believe we saw a rafter wearing sandals with spikes on them- on a raft, really?!) I would also suggest wearing a bathing suit under clothing that will dry easily and quickly. Most importantly bring your sense of adventure and a good attitude and be ready to have a blast! Pictures of the trip are posted online and start at around $10 each. They are mailed directly to your home. My only regret is that we didn't bring a disposable water camera.

I rafted here a few weeks ago with a group of 9 people, aged 14 to 35. We had an excellent time! A bit of a rough start as everyone figures out the system. Sometimes it was hard to hear the instructions because we were so spread out. But after the first few rapids, you get the idea of how things work. All of the guides were friendly, especially the two Scott's and the guy who carried our food :) Speaking of food, don't expect a four course meal. Come on, you're on a river! Sandwich wraps, fruit and cookie. Nothing great, but it gave us fuel to get through the rest of the trip! I felt safe going through the harder rapids and when one of our boats lost half of the occupants at Dimple Rock, the guides had them back to safety before we even knew what happened! The only thing I didn't like was the cost of the pictures at the end. Overall, great experience and we are already planning a return trip. Guarantee we will be going with White Water Adventurers!!!

Great day on the Lower Yough. 11 year old daughter had a blast. Paid for the guide in the boat which I would highly recommend for families with children. Our guide Matt was awesome. He knew the river and navigated us through all the rapids. I felt very confident about his abilities and was able to enjoy the trip and not worry about my daughters safety. Thanks to all the guides for an awesome, safe adventure.

The saving grace for this place is the fresh baked goods. I don't know what the rafting trips are like that are run by whitewater adventurers but they don't know how to run a coffee shop.The young woman behind the counter had no customer services skills and the other staff would ignore you. (It might be because they were all guys and didn't think it was their role to help with the customers which would explain the young woman's unresponsiveness. So... firing her would actually be doing her a favor.)I suggest firing the young brunette woman behind the counter and training the rest of your staff to not ignore waiting customers. Then you might have a good coffee shop.

This was a surprise family trip for my 6 and 10 yr old. We were very excited to find something close to home. It began nice...ended is disappointment and will NEVER return or recommend. The water level was low and was not told this until we reached our destination. I understand that the company can not control the weather, but it would of been nice to be given an option BEFORE leaving on a dirty/smelly van to the put in point. We had to drag and push through SEVERAL areas on the 11 mile tour...beat up legs and feet are no where near fun. And due to the water level, the guides suggested a 2 man inflatable kayak instead of a 4 person raft. Family together adventure split up. The kayaks had so many patches that several had to keep being inflated with hand pumps during the 5 hr trip. Deli style lunch...JOKE! Not even enough food for all the rafters in the group. Even my 6yr old was still hungry!!!The guides were nice, but not real informative on how too's or what to do etc... Basically throw in your boat and lets get going style. When we FINALLY reached the end, we walked 1/4 mile back to the station as we watched the same van that dropped us off pass and wave with all the equipment. I expressed my displeasure with the manager and owner and got NO WHERE! They had their $..what did they care, not to mention RUDE. You know its bad when the kids didn't even enjoy it!PAY the extra $$ and head down to the New River Gorge in WV! I guess you get what you pay for.

To be honest, my family had an awful time. We made our reservations on a Thursday and didn't get our confirmation until the day before our trip after several calls to the office. First, let me say, the headquarters for the White Water Adventurers is four different parts to the same building: a cafe, a gift shop, and two storage rooms. There is no bathroom here; you have to walk across a parking lot and a road to get to a bathroom that is maybe cleaned once a month. We survived the bathroom and went back to the check-in area. They then shuttled us to the site where we were to get into the water. Unfortunately, the water level was too low, we were told, to use the rafting boats in the Middle Yough. We all had to go in kayaks. The site where we entered, the river was so low, you got stuck in rocks every two seconds for about a quarter mile. Then, we really got going. We went through rapids that are almost as big as the ones in my nearby creek. After the first few "rapids" as they call them, there is a six mile calm stretch that we had to paddle nonstop. We couldn't take a break because our tour guides were so pushy, and one of them was completely impatient with my little sister and her friend because they were having problems with their kayak.Our lunch was made up of some sandwich wraps, cookies, and a jug of water. There wasn't enough sandwiches packed for the whole group that consisted of about 14 people (though our guides adamantly apologized and informed the manager before our return). We then got back in our boats and continued to paddle. The guide and front went so far ahead of the group that we really had no idea where to go and where to hit the rapids at. Then, there was a very long stretch where it was pouring and we had to get out and pull our kayaks through the water. Finally, we made it the the take-out and walked a few blocks back to the headquarters.I'm sorry this seems like a rant, but we really did have an awful time. Honestly, some of it was our fault, we should have watched the weather report and checked the water level, but as first time rafters we had no idea what to expect. I suggest that unless you have children under five years old, start off on the class two and three rapids. They'll be a lot more satisfying. We couldn't wait to change into dry clothes and leave, and my family will have to think a lot about whether or not we'll be using the same rafting place.

Be prepared to carry the raft to the water edge. You have to carry the raft over rock-strewn low water sections and to carry your raft back up the path at the end of the day after paddling for 4 hours. Really hard on older parents with small kids. Had to carry the raft 10-12 blocks up hill from the take out point. They could have made it easier by having a trailer at the take out point to put the rafts on.

I have paddled the Yough twice about 8 years ago in a 4 man raft and had a blast. Time went by and I returned to the river last weekend to paddle the Lower once more. This time my buddies had graduated to smaller, solo crafts. I took a bandit down the river on my first solo trip...I had an adrenaline soaked, boulder beaten, challenging, intense ride. I do not recommend this for your first solo trip down the Yough, unless you are ready to buckle up and totally commit to navigation and survival. All in all I had a damn good time, but just take the right craft. Lesson learned, but I made it!!!

My Girlfriend and I have been to Ohiopyle twice, both times we went to White Water Adventures. First time we did the Lower Yough, that is more for the family style if you just want to get a good preview of what White Water Rafting is. They take you through some very nice scenery and the rapids are fun, but not too challenging. We did not have a guide on our raft which made it even more fun because it built teamwork with two other people that you just met that day. The last time we went we did the Upper Yough, with class 4 and 5 rapids. This was serious white water rafting! Since it was colder out, the guides recommended we rent wet suits... glad we did because we both fell in the very first rapid! The wet suit kept us both comfortable in very cold water. Besides that falling in the first time (which happens to a ton of people we were told) it was a blast! I felt safe the whole time, the guides were very educated on the river and its individual features. Would recommend either trip for any one who wants a good adrenaline rush!

My sister and I went white water rafting down the Lower Yough here. It was amazing!! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They explained everything quite well. (We had no experience in rafting) We were planning to rent an individual kayak and go on our own, but the water levels that day were to high for anyone to go independently. We sat in the front of the rafts and it was quite crazy at times! You get tossed around a bit, but none of us fell out. I wouldn't recommend small or young kids going down the yough. There's another river that's not as rough as this one. Half way through the trip, you stop and have lunch on the bank which was nice. The rafting lasted about 3 hours, but it didn't even feel like one hour. It was a fantastic time and I would love to go again!

I have been using this outfitter for years. I've tried others but keep coming back. You have to respect the water and Jim at White Water Adventures makes sure that your trip is safe and fun. This year was my first time on the Upper and...I felt so very safe with my guide right in the book. I read some of the other reviews and would encourage you to choose this outfitter!

We conquered the lower Yough !!!! We loved it!!!! we were lucky to have a guide in our raft who made the trip truly fun...we were all 6 adults in the raft and requested the more "daring sides" or more fun and she was awesome!!!! thank you Mitzy you made it GREAT !!! . we had a higher level of water so the trip was faster , it still takes about 3 hours from check in to back home including a 20 min break for lunch. We did it on monday so we did not have the weekend crowds and no waiting for other rafts. Most rapids were 2 and 3 with a couple of 4's that were thrilling enough for everyone. No one fell from the raft, except on purpose, we all had helmets and vests on, plus instructions were right on cue....i think it would have been a different story if we would not have had Mitzy with us...unless you are experienced, I can see us tumbling down or paddling aimlessly for a while...it is worth it to pay for the guide in the raft as opposed to following u in a separate kayak , if you are not familiar with the river... It fell SAFE and FUN at all times... !!!! thank you White water adventures..cant wait to go back and trying solo !!!! the trip is suitable to kids 12 and older , who are not timid and comfortable with cold water splashes !!! :)
