First off, let me start by saying the outdoor history is FREE! ( and frankly that is all that you would want). This Education center takes you back from 1776-Present with live entertainment (tanks parked outside, helicopters over you, guard towers, WW1 tunnel systems, WW2 bunkers (not accurate as I have been to Normandy, but good enough to stress the point). I traveled here by mistake, but will definitely bring my child back when he is old enough!

A wonderful mixture of unique arts, crafts, vendors and German music. And of course, the beers are great.

If you are in the Armed Forces and have risen in rank to the point that you are being considered for a promotion to General, you will first be assigned to spend a year in Carlisle PA at the US Army War College. Their public slogan is, " by studying war, we learn to keep peace" While the War College understandable has restricted acess, the Heritage Museum is FREE and open to the public. Located on the site of the former US Indian School, the famous athlete Jim Thorpe was a student. There are interesting exhibits both inside and out, there are literally attractions for all ages. Located just off I81 and with quick military helicopter landings with possible "top brass" from DC, you might see a US Sec of Defense or President. Plan a visit and be reminded that Freedom is not Free!

Interesting site to visit. Learned quite a bit regarding our Army and it's history. Well done museum experience. Brings history to life. Enjoyed the historical information and museum displays inside the main building. Where else can you have an opportunity to fire an m-16 in a realistic training simulator? Enjoyed the simulator as an adult. I can only imagine how cool it would be for a child to experience.

Fortunately, we live just a mile or so from the Army Heritage and Education Center (AHEC), but have taken advantage of some of the great special events and programs this relatively new addition to Carlisle offers. The AHEC has an amazing collection for serious military researchers and conducts special programs throughout the year, including fun events like Octoberfest, complete with rides, food and a beer garden outdoors.Lectures and special programs by military experts and historians are also offered throughout the year..The AHEC also includes an outdoor walking course with life-size examples of Army outposts and strategic facilities (an underground bunker,WWII barracks, tanks, helicopters, etc). throughout U.S, Army history, from colonial times to the present..The track, popular with early-morning runners and walkers, is visible from Interstate Route 81.The AHEC is separate from the nearby Carlisle Barracks and U.S. Army War College and is open to the public, but is often overlooked. . A gift shop offers books and other items. Great (and fun) place to educate children about U.S. Army - and military history in general.

You will find so many interesting things to see and interactive displays to participate in at the Heritage Center. We first walked the outdoor trails and took tons of pictures of all of the tanks, etc. Then we went inside to see so much more. Let's face it, there's nothing FUN about learning about war and what our troops have to go through, but it makes you feel closer to them to learn. Both my husband and I were in the military ourselves, so this museum touched close to home and at times, brought me to tears. The employees are WONDERFUL and super friendly. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I think us adults had more fun than the kids. Loved all the hands on displays. So much history and military items. There's a shooting gallery, simulated parachute jump and so much more. Whoever put this altogether did an amazing job making this so educational and fun. I would highly recommend stopping here for a few hours.

The army heritage center is s great place to take a stroll and see army history from WW 2 trenches to a Vietnam bivouac and everything in between. Tanks, helicopters, and canons from all eras. There is also a museum with exhibits and a decent snack bar. The price for the outside is free and the inside was also free except for the snack bar of course. This is definitely a place to visit if you are in the area.

Tons of history here. The best military history site we have ever been to. We try to visit at least once a year. Info on battles from the very beginning of our nation to present. Indoor displays change every 1-2 years(?). Lots to see inside & out. Outside pea gravel trail with displays, for all ages. Some items kids can climb on & some that they are asked not to. Bunkers & trenches. German pill box. Helicopters. Tanks. Benches available. Many outside structures involve steps; call for info on wheelchair accessible areas. Some buildings are closed at different times. Festivals held here at least yearly. NOTE: it is often very windy (cold winds) here.Free parking & admission. Cafe. Library has a revolving museum display upstairs & continual displays regarding Carlisle Indian School. All staff have been very helpful. Nice bathroom inside, a port-a-potty outside. There are often used books for sale outside their gift shop, which is well-stocked ($-$$$, all ages).

The kids love this place with all of the military equipment, tunnels, and replica frontier buildings. They also have great events here. The museum is a little small but its interesting. Worth a stop by for everyone.

Having been in the Army during the Korean war I can testify to the Exhibits being real. People can see how a soldier lived while in the Army. Great Decessions classes where Officers who have just returned from the war Zone;. inform the audience of what is taking place

I have been walking the park for years. Over the years it has expanded to include many exhibits. The bunkers, trenches, helicopters and tanks are an adventurous child's dream come true. I wish this was around when I was young. I started off pushing my son in stroller, then walks. He likes the obstacle course and playing soldiers. Oktoberfest is awesome. We went twice this past weekend. They also hold interesting events. Meeting Buzz Aldrin in a relaxed atmosphere will always be remembered. Great place for history buff, anyone into walking and especially for kids.

Excellent educational center full of exhibits and a fantastic library. Mr. Bishop (I believe is his name) is a "treasure!" Full of knowledge with computer to access files (if you have details) and/or Lots of BOOKS for research. There is an Octoberfest - see Carlisle events for details.

I take my family to the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center frequently. It is well-maintained and a lovely park. We love it.
