The general Allen market is home to five antique malls, over 100,000 square feet and 1,000 dealer booths to shop from. As well, we have long-time customers domestically and internationally-- some travel here from Alaska, and as far away as Japan. Our area also has customers (of all ages) from one to one-hundred-- and therefore we offer a much wider-selection than found in generalized smaller antique markets. You are correct to point out that we do not just have "antiques." We have hundreds of thousands of items from antiques, collectibles, vintage, and useful home-based goods. In fact, the Hog Creek Antique Mall has an area specifically dedicated to crafts, along with homemade goods and products.Since the idea of "antiques", "collectibles", and "vintage" is subjective to each person, I would like to comment on that. For example, if one were to ask an 80 year old person, "What is an antique?" They would most likely respond something like the late 1800s or early 1900s. If we were to ask an 18 year old that same question, they might respond with something like the early 1980s, etc. "Antique" has many different meanings to many different people. Also, just because something may not be old (depending on what "old" means to an individual) does not mean that it is not a valuable item to a collector. Vintage items have become very collectible. These may include items from mid-century (1950s and 1960s), or could even include collectibles from the 80s and 90s.To say that our area is "not worth it" is your opinion, and we respect that opinion for you individually. It, however, does not apply to majority of our customers/visitors. While you may not have found any items to your liking, there are hundreds of thousands of customers who have. Allen has been a draw for decades, and will continue to be- since our merchandise changes every day (and we offer more than most all competing antique areas). As well, we are the largest concentration of antique malls, within hundreds of miles-- making us the official Antique Capital of Michigan. So while we regret that you may not have found anything on your first visit, there could possibly be many items that you would find on a second visit. I would encourage you to give us another try when you are in the area.
