This is one of the few places you can access Lake Huron, but you may have to go without your family pet. Stupid. Pleasant beach area and great campsites.
Yes, the west side of the state is beautiful, but the east... the east is a hidden gem. This summer we visited Tawas State Park and Harrisville State Park. Both are awesome and we definitley plan to return. Beautiful bath houses, nice sites, and gorgeous beaches.
My wife and I liked this campground very much even with some small problems with waiting to get into a bathroom/shower. We stayed for two nights; our camp site was reasonably secluded and was recommended by the ranger when we made our reservation. We brought our bikes and explored the area. To the south and west, the paved roads becamse dirt before we were ready to come home; but the shore road to the north goes on for miles so that we headed back to check out of our camp site in time. The other advantage was having the small town of Harrisville in walking distance with four restaurant/bars, a grocery store, and several shops. The Northern Accents store was enormous with both tourist stuff and lots of furniture; we had to leave at closing time before we had seen it all. Visitors can also use the public library for guest Internet access. We're not water people so that all we did is walk along the shore, but many people were in the water.
We stayed at Harrisville state park from July 14thru july 19. We stayed on site 106 it is very close to the pet beach, the site was very wooded and hard to back our 24 ft ravel trailer into, the site was very muddy as it rained on Tue, other than having no grass just cedar leaves on the ground, the site was very seculded. The park was still working on the new bathroom witch is right on the lake @the public beach. The new bathroom only has 2 stalls in the mens room witch seems kinda odd for a brand new bathroom. I did not use the showers but my wife said they were very nice. some showers had toilet facilities in the showers. It is anice walk into Harrisville witch we did on several occasions, We went to the Dugout, and Shotmakers,
My wife and I plan one week each summer to spend at this beautiful state park. It has always been well-maintained and staffed with friendly people. This year was a change! The two older bathhouses were replaced with a new facility. Unfortunately, it is not large enough to handle all of the park when it is full. It was poorly maintained in that the women's restroom was regularly out of toilet paper- no excuse for this. Will not be returning unless a second facility is added. No vacation standing in line to use a restroom...
The last time we stayed at Harrisville, both bathrooms buildings were from the 1950's (no exaggeration). This year they have new bathrooms, yay!!!! The new building is located where the little park was near the beach. We also like this state park because you can ride your bike to town to eat, get groceries, etc. Also, you can rent bikes if you don't bring your own.
This state park is clean and conveniently located. Not very crowded. The beach has a marked swimming area but no lifeguards on duty. The bathhouse at the swimming area looks newer and well kept.
We stayed in the campground, but were very close to the day-use area. It has a great sandy beach, pavilion, and some basic play equipment for kids. The bathrooms have 3 stalls, and that also serves as a changing area, so the floors get wet easily. If you're looking for a great beach on Lake Huron, this works well!
Not pleased within the first 10 minutes, tried finding a site on the water, but rude campers had allowed their kids to leave bikes, toys in the road, seen us coming & just stood by the camper, had to get out of vehicle to move toys to get thru......ended up on the opposite end of the park from them & found a beautiful site on the water. They have just built a new shower house right on the water also, so very clean!! Wasn't very busy when we visited. Some sites are not very big, while others are pull thru's, great sites are available everywhere. Beautiful sunrise if you don't mind being up at 5:30 a. m. :-) !!!!!
Camped here over 4th July weekend. Camp has bike path to town to watch fireworks over harbor. Lots of fish flies but fireworks were great for small town. Beach is decent for east coast of MI, but nothing compared to west side of state. Campground has lots of trees giving good privacy on some sites. Overall it is a very nice state park.
We live near Harrisville State Park. We feel so lucky to have this beautiful park so close. The beach is pristine and the sunrise spectacular. The trails are well kept and there is a new shower building going up. No matter what month of year - this park is beautiful.
My wife and i make at least one trip to this park each year. The location is perfect. There are sites that are up to the beach and there are also sites that are wooded. The beach is awesome, sandy and clean. There is a bike trail that goes into town or down to the day park. Wood is available at the park by a private party. The wood is mostly hardwood, so it's good for cooking over. You can get a bundle or have a cord delivered. They drive around the park in the evening. The park also has ice available for purchase. The downside are the bath houses. They are old and too small for the size of the park. I guess they are planning to build a new one, there was a sign posted with the design. Anyways, great star gazing and bike riding.
Harrisville State park is one of the oldest state park here in Michigan nice sites and great bathrooms and shower area most all the sites are a short walk to the beach and also connected with the state park beach area on Lake Huron
