We had 1/2 a day in the Leelanau Peninsula and picked this vineyard - best decision! All the wines we tasted were distinct and fantastic. The tasting room was full of visitors! Extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. Will definitely visit again!!
When we arrived, the tasting specialist suggested going through their whole wine menu, to see what we would like. There was no limit or fee, but there was a tip jar- he deserved it! He explained all of the wines and what we would taste on each part of our mouth-fascinating. He also gave a hisoty of the vineyards, including a horticulture lesson. He brought out a cheese ball and crackers to pair with a couple of the wines, and we wound up buying the mix for the cheese- delicious! We do a fair amount of wine tasting, but this was the best we have experienced.
This vineyard has won a lot of awards so we headed there to check it out. The tasting room was jammed! The owner walked over to us with tasting glasses and started our tasting experience. Great wines and a great experience. Well worth the trip from Chicago.
The only winery that offers free tasting. That might indicate a confidence in what they produce. The staff is knowledgeable and will not talk down to you like some of the other places. Next visit it will be the only winery on our itinerary.
Chateau Fontaine is a MUST stop on any wine tour in this region. The owners are some of the nicest people we've met - very engaging and genuinely happy to have you as a guest. By the way - they have some great wines too (I'm particularly fond of the Big Paw Red) that are award winners and very reasonably priced.
The staff here is knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The wine is generally quite good. I enjoyed the Pinot Gris.
This winery has a nice tasting room and good wine to sample. The tasting menu is shorter than many wineries we have visited but you can try all of them. They also give you some cheese, crackers, and chocolate to match the wine flavors and absorb some of the alcohol. After visiting the bathroom, I now have an idea of what to do with corks! The prices for their wines are very good and should encourage you to take a few bottles home with you.
We visited Chateau Fountaine after having visited a variety of other wineries in the area. This winery was absolutely our favorite due to the hospitable staff and delicious wines. The staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and enthusiastic about the wines. We were impressed by the extensive tasting (which included a taste of garlic cheese between the whites and reds, as well as a piece of dark chocolate with the cherry wine!).
This was the last winery we stopped at before leaving the Leelanau Wine Trail, boy are we glad we did. The white wines were the best we had, of 12 wineries, and they had varietals we had not tasted before. The tasting room is not the show, the wines are. The staff was knowledgable and friendly, enjoying their work. The prices were reasonable and the quality exceptional, we will order from them.
I will start by saying that I am not a great connoisseur of wines--I like drinking wine, but I am far from picky about it. The experience at Chateau Foutaine was wonderful though. The attention they gave to us, who were clearly not discriminating tasters, was outstanding. They give a tasting of every wine they make and walk you through them with extensive details. The staff was very knowledgeable about the process of making their wines as well as the history of their winery and its land. This was a wonderful experience and should be a stop for everyone.
One of our favorite stops when we're in the area. Of all the wineries on the Leelanau Peninsula this has to be one of our favorite stops for the attention and knowledge provided during the tastings and the quality of the wines. We never leave without buying at least 3 bottles for dinners while were in the area or for gifts for friends. We have found both reds and whites to our liking, many of which have won awards throughout the country.
Even though this was one of the busiest wineries we stopped at, we felt like we were the only ones there with the attention that we got during our wine tasting. And it was just a bonus that the wines were all great tasting too!
Great find! Free tastings and you get to try most if not all their wines. The tasting room manager is very knowledgable about wine - we really enjoyed our experience!
This is a must if you are touring wineries. Small tasting room with lots of knick knacks which you can ignore. Their dog will great you and he is very sweet. The wine tasting is FREE - Yes free. Very knowledgeable people will take you through their selections of wines. They will help you pair them with food and tell you about the growing conditions, production process and awards. All of the wines are great and the staff is fantastic! You will find something you like probably a case.
