My kids had a blast at the campground. They had fun swimming and fishing on the pier. Weather was good! My only only complaint is the campsites were all dirt. It is a beautiful area! If you like roughing it then you wont be disappointed.
This is the fourth time in three years that we have camped at Bruin Lake. Usually we are on the lake this time we had a site on the outer side and could see the lake. It is close by to allow us to park the trailer then get back for the boat. On weekends it is full and can look like a trailer park. The anchorage area can be a bit crowded. I can't wait for the improvements to the campground and the anchorage that will take place before next season.
I spent four hours swimming in Silver Lake which is part of the Pinckney Recreational Area. The lake was very refreshing and I just couldn't stop swimming. Amenities here include a fishing pier, boat rentals, picnic areas, volleyball courts, a concession stand, camping sites and great swimming in the lake. For a carefree summer day or two Pinckney Recreation Area can't be beat! It's a little bit of Vermont here especially with the nearby farms and cow herds.
Close to home, but definitely out in the country. Went here with my family, definitely had a good time. Pros are grassy sites, friendly staff, great host camper involvement. Felt safe letting the kids run around because most of the campers were family. The lake is shallow in the swimming area and my kids loved it. the water was clean, but would cloud up with minimal movement due to the soft "dust" bottom. Those pros were a little overshadowed with the cons tho. No sand on the beach, no sand castles for the little ones. If they say the site is hilly, bring extra boards for leveling because they are not kidding. Huge annoyance was no hand dryers in the bathrooms. Host camper said that the park has had problems with people breaking the blowers, and trashing the bathrooms with towels. Also, almost every time I was in the bathroom, the floor was wet. They keep up with cleaning it (3x per day) but seems some had problems with missing the mark a lot. I will be back to this campground, but its because of my kids and the fun they had. With out my family, you wouldn't see me there.
Great hiking with clearly marked trails. Hilly terrain, but not too challenging. Trails are used by bikers and hikers.
Trail was a tough workout but very rewarding. If your not a biker lots of other activities are available. There was a nice beach area, hiking, and volleyball. Worth taking a day to check out.
I like going here to kayak. The park is clean; the trails and pathways well-maintained. The lake has a couple of beach areas for families, and a few places for kayak and canoe put-in.
My family camped here for two days in early August. The park was not full, but populated evenly. Many types of sites to choose from large to small. Many sites were not flat and if the DNR reservation page says it may be difficult to level some trailers, believe them and them and then add a factor of two. We luckily had enough shims to get us there, but that first step out of the camper was a stretch. The park is well staffed and patrolled and they took quiet time seriously. There were interesting activities for the kids at reasonable times and lots of games and stuff you could borrow to play. The only drawback was the sheer number of watercraft that churned up the lake all day long. The water for the most part except early morning was cloudy and stirred up. Some of these boats did not belong on such a small and shallow lake. If you are a boater, pick the southern sites so that you can tie up your boat nearly at your site. Another thing I should mention is what I will call the party barge. This very large pontoon boat launched daily and included a generator, professional quality speakers, a huge amplifier and other DJ equipment. It could be heard clearly through the campground from the northeastern part of the lake. This is where a flotilla of other partiers tied up as well. Luckily they played a mix of music to please the masses or I expect some intervention would have occurred. Overall a very nice campground.
We liked to go to the RV Park with our camper and we always enjoyed our stay. There's lots of trails to walk, or there are also nice bike trails. We have many fond memories of our camping experiences
We just returned from a trip to Bruin Lake Campground. We love the campground. The sites are large and the staff are friendly. The campground was very quiet. They close the bathrooms 3 times a day for cleaning. There is nothing in the restrooms for drying your hands, no towels or air dryers. I was surprised by the mold on the showe walls. They should be using a cleaner that kills the mold. The ladies room only had one outlet for a hair dryer over the sink. It made it awkward in the morning when several people were trying to bursh their teeth dry their hair.
