This is a great place to put down stakes for a week or two. Nice park on the water. Give it a try when you are in the area. Nice day park also.

This State Park, up against Lake Huron in the "thumb" of Michigan, has some exceptional scenery. Although plenty of beach was available, both in the "Campground" and the "Day-Use" portions of the park, accessing any beach will involve a significant walk. Be advised to plan ahead when visiting these beaches, as getting back to where the car is parked, will be an excursion in itself! Campsites were very clean and spacious.

Had a large family camping trip here this year on the organizational site. Frustrated that they chose to start enforcing the 2 car parking limit for this football field sized site. As a result, we spent the entire weekend driving back and forth between the visitor lot and campsite, which was no small distance. Also, as there was no warning that this would be enforced this year, for the first time, we had no food storage containers and were forced to keep our food outside or in tents. While the site is lovely and large, with direct beach access, best not to come if you're expecting reasonable interpretation of the rules, or convenient access to your car.

This was the third summer we've camped as a family group in the group use area of the campground. It is a nice large area for a big group and secluded from the rest of the campground. The beach is rocky but nice. The bathroom, "the vault", is terrible! This is the first year we've had any trouble with rangers enforcing their parking rule. The general campground rule is that each camp site can only have 2 cars. The group use area (which is MUCH larger than a regular camp site and can easily host dozens of campers) apparently can only have 2 cars as well. This rule does not make sense seeing as how the area is designated for larger groups. When asked why this was not an issue the previous 2 years of camping, the ranger replied that it was a rule that wasn't being enforced. Please, Lakeport State Park, review your handbook and realize that rules that don't make sense should either not be enforced, or should be changed.

Not impressed with the open spaces. We drove an hour and a bit to arrive to a lot that had one small tree. This was the camp ground near the beach. Cars parked everywhere..no privacy. We love rustic camping and for us this would not do. We left the park and drove home.We did not venture around the park for the beach or activities as it was getting late. Insure the rest of it would have been beautiful.Just a heads up for those that want something a little more than a price of grass from your back yard to pitch your tent or hook up your trailer.

Camping is great with many sites. The north campground is very open and sites vary in size...make sure look at the map online. The south campground sites are much more wooded and separate, but do not have anything for the kids. It is harder to access the beach from that campground. really liked this beach. Very clean! A bit rocky for the first 10-15' but nice sandy bottom once you get past that. I highly recommend water shoes for kids. Great for kite flying also.

I really liked this beach. Very clean! Was busy due to the Holiday weekend. I talked with few locals and they say its realitvely quiet during most summer days. A bit rocky for the first 10-15' but nice sandy bottom once you get past that. I highly recommend water shoes for kids. Parking is across M25 but a nice elevated crosswalk bridge with beautiful lake views make it worth the walk. Day pass is $11. One of the nicer beaches realitvely close to Metro Detroit. Would recommmend :) Great for freighter watching as well as sail boats

What a great state park!! As an avid camper, I've visited many of Michigan's state parks, but for some reason have not stayed at Lakeport until this past weekend. We will be coming back time and time again! The site was HUGE, with a beautiful view of the lake. The lake is so beautiful, but has a rocky beach so bring your water shoes. If you forget those, don't worry, there is a "Camp Store" within the camping loop that sells souvenirs, slushies, camping essentials, and all sorts of anything else you may need. Great place to take kids camping-- Lexington is 10 miles north with a great pier/ harbor, putt-putt golf within 5 miles, the water, the camp store. Zero complaints, we had a great experience here!!!

Stayed here for the Cdn Victoria Day weekend. I really liked this park, even though it was pretty full, the park didn't seem overly busy or noisy. The lake is close to the campground and some of the sites overlook lake huron and the beach and have a very nice view. It's close enough to Port Huron that you can buy everything there if coming from canada. Can't really think of anything bad to say, couldn't go swimming it was too cold. I guess the lakeshore is rocky under the water so swimming shoes are a good idea. They have a separate park about 1 mile down the road for the daycampers, so the best part is the overnight campers get this park and beach to themselves. Will definitely go back again.

I have been camping here for over 10 years and after this years camping trip it will be my last. The staff is WAY too strict. Wether your playing cards with your 15 year old or just sitting outside watching a game on t.v. you are told to be quiet. We were told to turn OFF our outside t.v at 10:00 one night. It really is rediculous. No music, no laughing, no nothing. The staff walks around 24/7 patrolling. I feel like its a prison camp now. It is in no way at all enjoyable or relaxing. A couple can't even laugh, play music or a game together, let alone having a group together to have fun. I'm not talking a rowdy bunch of drinkers I'm just talking about a large family with grandma and grandpa...forget it at lakeport state park. The last year and a half it has gotten so bad. They must have different management at the park now. I will never go back. Yes the park is clean, the beach is beautiful but aside from the wardens patrolling the park like the halls of a jail the went wild and cut so many trees down all at once. Some siteslook like your camping in an open field so if you stay here try to call the park and ask about the site you prefer....good luck and plan on being in bed by 9:00pm.

I have camped here a couple of times now. It is very clean and quiet. The staff is very strict on the quiet hours, so it isn't a place for big groups who plan to party. There were only 4 of us girls and we only got told once to keep it down, as the Park Ranger just happened to walk by when we were laughing loudly about something. They also strictly enforce the two car limit per campsite, but I think most campgrounds do. They keep the restrooms very clean, taking care to clean them twice a day. There are two separate rest areas, so if one is being cleaned, the other one isn't very far to walk to.

Stopped in at the day use area last Tuesday. No one in the place. Very nice nature walk. Nice overpass to beach. Well kept beach park area. Gorgeous beach wit lots of space. Definitely a place to go to from home as it is close and I have lots of weekdays off.

Been camping here for years, so far my interaction with the staff has been outstanding, Bob is very helpful along with Noell, Ralph checked us in and had a wealth of knowledge as to what to do in the area. Week before I felt with a Cassy in the office, she was a little rough in attitude but was very helpful. All in all a great place to go.

This park and campground are on Lake Huron and the scenery is great. Large lots, many trees , nice beach walk, well kept, updated facilities, close to all amenities, however still in the woods!
