A'66 Mustang hardtop. A Stanley Steamer. Even a DeLorean can be found in this intriguing collection of cars originally amassed by Mr. Backer, a local potato chip maker. Even if you're a huge car buff, you'll probably still find one or two you've never seen before. Worth the trip out!
They had a real interesting mix of cars. A Cord. A desoto roadster a Lasalle, a Stanley steamer. The placards didn't always match the right car and most of the cars weren't perfect but it was still enjoyable. Some displays of sites from the surrounding area was worthwhile. I have been to much nicer museums but also to much worse. I would go back because the attendant said they rotate other cars in and out. We had a fun visit.
This is way bigger on the inside than it looked on the outside. Really a treat if you are into history. More than old cars, they have whole scenes created that make you feel like you are going back in time. Worth a visit.
When we first walked in, I felt like we had disturbed the clerk. She didn't even say hi after we did. Once we paid she opened up the door to the car room and it felt dark and dingy. There was no one else in the room. Cars seemed to be kept in pretty good shape, however there were cardboard boxes in random spots, just felt strange. We felt this museum was not worth the cost. After the reception we got from the clerk, we had no desire to look around the gift shop.
I read the reviews for this museum and planned a trip there based on the good reviews. My family and I were EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED. It was so DIRTY and DUSTY that I coughed and choked the entire time my family was there. I've never seen so many cobwebs before outside of a haunted house attraction! They covered the vehicles and many went down from the ceiling grids. 90% of cars had trash in them (old, crumpled paper, boxes, etc). The floors were dirty and needed a good once-over with a shop broom. There was such a thick layer of dust on everything. The labels denoting the vehicle names were taped on the vehicle using office tape-not good on the finish. Most of the labels weren't even there so we didn't know what vehicle was what. The mannequins need to be removed as they had limbs missing-very tacky and a bad display. I asked the woman at the front if the place was ever cleaned to which she replied that 'it's only cleaned once a year because it costs too much to have someone do it'. After that she went back to playing on the computer. She said she was only filling in for the day and obviously couldn't be bothered with a paid customer. Perhaps she could have gotten off her chair and used a duster???The front lobby/gift shop area was filthy dirty too. The management should be ashamed. My hubby who is a car buff was so angry and felt we were ripped off. He asked me to contact the management and complain and I will.
The outside of the building is like "don't judge a book by its cover" thing. Inside is outstanding. It's amazing to see another special thing in this little Burg called Fulton. The amount of cars and the variety is very impressive, especially the way they have set up the presentation. We liked the low cost, too!
We took in the Auto World Museum and had a leisurely walk through the museum seeing around 80 cars some of them were a one of the kind, if you like looking at old one of a kind cars, then it is worth the price.
Auto World Car Museum at Fulton Missouri, is a great place to visit for those who love looking at old vehicles. The museum has one of each of the best known vehicles. We especially enjoyed the Nash, and the Stanley Steamer. It was hard to choose a favorite. It was not busy so we took our time looking at the vehicles.
This car museum rivals none other in the state. There are cars from all eras. From conception to modern muscle. It is worth the stop to strech your legs and see the history of cars and more.
Great cars from the early 1900s all the way through the 70s. There's even a DeLorean. The cars aren't just lined up, but are surrounded by huge photo backdrops or constructed settings of their particiular era. Very well done. One of the better car museums I've seen.
I love old cars. This is a fantastic collection of rare automobiles! I Have been there twice and loved it. The selection changes from time to time, so you may see something new each time.
A very nice private collection from the Backer family is available for viewingat their Museum located on Hwy 54 in Fulton, Mo. A wide variety of fine vehicles displayed for your enjoyment...ooThanks to the Backers...! *Be sure and select BACKERS potato chips made in Fulton, Mo...See ya down the road... .. .O o- Carl (BC Mayor..=)~
If you have any interest at all in old cars you will enjoy this museum. Don't expect to see the vehicles displayed on pedestals. This is a large building divided into sections but not with the beautiful trappings of an art museum. The museum lets the cars themselves enthrall.Everyone has their own favorites but perhaps the most fascinating to us were the very early horseless carriages and a limited production two seater with a motorcycle engine built to have the feel of a jet fighter. You'll see cars from every decade, many that you'd only see on tv or from a distance in a parade. The diversity of exhibits is not exhaustive but it is good. Don't expect to see an array of expensive exotic vehicles, for instance. We brought our children but I'd imagine that the older generation would also find this museum enjoyable. The price is very reasonable. Don't let one person in your party rush you through. Take your time, get up close and enjoy.
This museum is well worth visiting. It's only seven minutes south of I-70 at exit 148 and houses more than 75 vintage automobiles in a 20,000 square foot building. Vehicles are well displayed. Most are restored to their original condition while others are unrestored originals. The gift shop offers a good choice of auto memorabilia and souvenirs.
This is a wonderful collection, not to be missed for those interested in the Automoblie and its history. Collection has some incredible early autos. Allow some time to browse !
