Museum of how they built Bagnell Dam is extremely interesting and the Lodge is a beautiful building to see. The fall colors are awesome to behold from this location as well.
Self guided tour with reading, and some audio, giving history of the area. Like how the dam site was selected and how the area was flooded to create the lake which destroyed several towns. Great view from a fairly high spot on the lake
This was a great informative place. It had a very good lesson on how and why dams are built. The lodge is beautiful out and in.
As new residents at the Lake, we have been inviting friends and family to enjoy its many wonders. One of these is Willmore Lodge. If you are interested in the history of Lake Ozark, don't miss the small-but-fascinating museum. The Lodge itself is lovely and architecturally interesting, and has a great view.
We stumbled upon the center. It has a beautiful view from inside. There is information about the area and a lot of information about the dam as it was being built.
Very nice lodge and visitors center. It had a nice selection of guides for around the area. We picked up a little coupon book for some stores on "The Strip". The information about the building of the Bagnell Dam was very interesting. We were glad we stumbled onto it.
Stopped off the road to visit. The lady working the information desk went above and beyond as far as courtesy and information was concerned. There is a display giving the history of how the Lake of the Ozarks came to be. Also a nice assortment of brochures and maps for local attractions. It also has a big balcony which overlooks the lake, but there are similar views throughout the area. Wouldn't stop here simply for that! Make sure to drive across the road and follow road down to the Bagnell Dam. There is a nice place to view the Dam very close up (kind of smelly though).
Beautiful building and immersing history. You can breeze through quickly or spend hours. A lot of depth in the history from original source material. I enjoyed the old videos and the book of invoices from the construction of the dam. There is history of the construction of the dam and how they had to clear towns, info on how the dam works, and info about the fish in the lake, etc. Well done and even engaged our kids ranging from 7 to 13.Also, love how the volunteer at the desk told us how we could get down to see the side of the dam (drive a ways past the lookout) . Much more interesting than trying to see anything by walking over the dam.BTW, the photo shown is deceiving and nearly made me skip this attraction. They make it look like just a small cabin. It is much bigger.
This place is gorgeous and a very big part of the history of the dam. It's amazing how the lodge has been maintained all of these years and it definitely has the best view of the lake! It only takes about an hour so well worth dropping in
The lodge is an historical residence and is very pretty. The museum was small, but interesting. I did not realize the lake was privately owned until I toured the museum. The garden area was pretty, but the path was very steep, so it is not for wheelchairs, strollers,or people who have trouble walking.
Great history display on how the Lake of the Ozarks was formed. Very knowledgeable regarding Lake news and things to do.
This is a quaint old lodge that's been overlooking Lake of the Ozarks even before there was a lake. Completed in 1930, this historic lodge now houses the Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. It has undergone extensive restoration and is now the best pace to learn about the history of Bagnell Dam and Lake of the Ozarks. Worth a quick visit for the spectacular view of the lake alone.
This is a very nice place to ake the family and learn the history of the area. I highly recommend taking the tour!
First timers to the Lake from Colorado and we loaded them up and took them to Willmore Lodge. It was a cold/wet weekday afternoon in April and we took our time showing them the architecture of the building, telling them stories about the renovation, and visiting with Karen, the hostess. There's also a mini museum with neat pictures and several interactive displays - and to our surprise a new one since our last visit. (As locals we consider that a real plus - thanks Ameren!) It's a great spot to look out on the Lake, to walk down to the point, and to step back in time.
My husband and I had our wedding here last summer. They were VERY accommodating. The price was much better than anywhere else we looked, we felt we got A LOT for our money. Since we weren't from the area the site planner was able to give us names of caterers and florists to help. If you are looking to plan a wedding in the area, you cannot find anything better than Wilmore Lodge!
