It's a nice look at the racial difficulties of the 60's and how music was integral to the times. Good history of the man as well
The BEST museum of this type I have ever visited. Please do not short change yourself on the amount of time spent...two hours minimum would be my suggestion. The organization and depth and overall quality of the BB King Museum is most impressive to say the least. The gift shop is also of high caliber and many music selections along with posters and other BB King items. The staff is professional, polite and extremely helpful.Check out the Blue Biscuit just down the street for a cold beer or a bbq.
This was a very interesting visit and if it wasn't part of our coach tour I may not of visited. Very interesting telling the story of how the blues were formed and how life was living and working in the Delta. There are lots of exhibits to look at and a short film to watch as well. It was interactive as well.
On a recent tour of the Southern States we made a detour to visit this museum, and were thoroughly pleased we had. We came away having learnt much more about BB of course, but also lots about the Delta area as well. The museum is bright and airy and very well presented. Allow about two hours for your visit.
Seemed to be more about Delta life and origin of blues than BB King's life. A lot of money was spend on this museum so the staff should be more friendly and informative. We felt like it was give us your money and go look. At other museums on the Blues Trail we go a much better reception.
We visited on BB's 89th birthday, but sadly he wasn't there! This is a really excellent museum. It starts with an informative film, then you move through a spacious exhibition of multimedia presentations. Very informative about life in the Delta, the origins of the blues, and of course the great man himself. Lots of opportunities to have a break and listen to music.Highly recommended, and Indianola is a pleasant town.
Drove about 4 hours up from New Orleans to the quiet little Mississippi town of Indianola. The museum presents the life story of BB King which is so inspiring. Also highlights some of the lesser known musicians from the Delta. Well worth the time spent on our way to Clarksdale.
This museum is a must-visit if you're anywhere near Indianola. I wouldn't say I was a 'huge' fan of BB King, and my parents who visited here with my wife and I didn't really know of him at all. However, don't let that put you off visiting as it's more that 'just' BB King, giving a fascinating overview of life in the deep south through the middle period of the last century. We expected to spend around 2 hrs here on the basis of reading previous reviews, but in the end we were here for 3 hrs and that was only by skipping a few of the information plates.Indianola should be more prominent on the map with this gem!
We were very pleasantly surprised about the history of BB King and the MS delta shared at this museum. Totally exceeded our expectations! We spent about an hour there, but could have stayed longer. The videos are well done, and there is an interesting collection of artifacts. Even if you are not a huge fan of the blues, you will enjoy the rich history shared at this museum.
If you are interested in the blues, and BB King himself this is a must visit place. The layout of the museum is a series of rooms telling the story of the delta and the blues through the life story of BB King with both static, well presented, content and high definition large screen video clips. In the clips BB, friends and family tell the story through each career stage in their own words and there is, of course plenty of music. At each screen there is a bench to sit and enjoy. The whole experience is bookended by two large theatre style video presentations in the form of a prologue and epilogue. I came away having learned something and with an even higher regard for BB King than before my visit. I left with a big grin on my face despite torrential rain and a largely flooded car park.
I enjoyed this museum more than the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale. The focus is on BB King of course, but offers so much more. Wonderful videos and interactive displays. We spent over 2 hours there. Well worth the trip to Indianola.
The museum gives a good overview over B.B. King's life and does it in an informative and interesting way.I especially liked the interactive tool where you can see how later rock musicians have been influenced by former blues artists.Same songs, different interpretation.Would recommend visiting this museum.
I've been a fan of BB for decades and finally got a chance to stop in his hometown and tour the museum established in his honor. Being very familiar with his career the visit still filled lots of holes in my knowledge of the Blues Boy.
This museum (obviously) focuses on BB King but is also about so much more. Through King's story the museum imparts a wealth of difficult/fascinating information about life for the black community in the Jim Crowe south--and beyond. Great videos and multi-media displays too! We spent two hours here and would highly recommend this museum to anyone coming to the area.
Really well presented history of the great man. Laid out in chronological order so it's like a journey through his life.
