Waveland was ground zero for hurricane Katrina. The little town was totally destroyed, but has rebuilt. The volunteers at the museum are all survivors and are very knowledgeable about the devastation this hurricane left in its wake. The museum is more a testiment to the strength of the human spirit than it is to documenting the destruction caused by Katrina. Plates that were found scattered here and there in the aftermath of the storm have been decorated by school children. One local artist collected odd bits of fabric and clothing that she found in the debris and made them into quilts. There are many pictures of the area before and after the storm. This is a small, local museum. Definitely worth a stop. Talking to the people here helps one get a perspective of the scope of the storm.
