Oldest grave found was one that was dated 1777, very historical cemetery. Confederate soldiers 1300 of them were buried in quiet cemetery. Note - The national cemetery does not have any of the confederate Vicksburg soldiers as they were not allowed to be buried in the national park. Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Mississippi, as well as other states, have soldiers buried here. Very moving place.

My husband and I visited Cedar Hill during our search for southern ancestors in October 2014. We found Cedar Hill to be an emotional experience, a reminder of our wonderful southern people and their sacrifices in attempt to protect their lives and property. We were saddened however, by the fact that while we were attempting to pay respect to those who died, others were using the small roads and paths through this cemetery as streets to cut through from one location to another, honking for those visiting graves and taking pictures to move, disrespecting the deceased. I highly recommend visiting Cedar Hill to anyone interested in the War Between the States (Civil War). This cemetery provides a look at what was a terrible experience for our beloved southern ancestors. .

This was my first visit to this hallowed place. I truly wanted to cry. I have family buried in the Confederate part of this cemetery. Truly an emotional experience to see the stones of so many of our ancestors laid to rest here. I regret that we could not spend a full afternoon walking from stone to stone to learn more about our southern/confederate heritage buried here. So much I could say...but I am blessed because I made the trip to this place.
