My husband and I have spent a lot of time in Charlottesville but decided to do some things this past weekend that we haven't done before. We had tried Starr Hill's beers (grocery store purchases) and thought it would be a fun change of pace for a January Saturday afternoon. The drive from close to the University to Crozet was a pretty one and we were met with a full parking lot and a busy tasting area! There was also a food truck parked outside. The tasting area is bright with lots of TVs (tuned to college basketball) and lots of seating. My husband tried a tasting of the classic flight of beers and also got to try their new Red IPA (Reviver) when one of the bartenders had some extra left over after filling a growler. It was his favorite. We took the brewery tour which was fun and (for me) educational. Tours start on the hour and last about 30 minutes.

This was our last stop on our three stop winery tour and it was great. We were a large group - 15 people 25-30 - and they made sure that there were tables reserved for our large group. We went on an interesting tour of the brewery and afterwards we got a generous tasting sampler of all of the delicious beers that there are to offer. There is a great atmosphere here, although when it gets busy there is a bit of a wait at the bar - but that is because the beer is so good! There was also a food truck outside with sausages and grilled cheeses that were delicious and exactly what we needed.Loved it!

The new tasting room is a lot of fun...relaxed, roomy, and an outdoor area with games for when the weather is nice. If you get lucky, Mark (owner) may visit with you for awhile and reminisce about Charlottesville in the old days. Good beer selection.

This was our first stop of the day. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Awesome décor. Great beers. The service was a little lacking. Instead of periodically checking up on people, the lone bartender would wait until it was obvious someone needed something. Despite that, I would visit again if I were in the area.

Comfortable open space to enjoy a cold craft brew. Liked the 5 brew sampler for 5$. You could purchase bottles of your favorite beer.

New tasting room/bar. Beers are very good. Interesting tour of the brewery. A very good choice for some beer drinking.

This is the most famous of the breweries on the Brew Ridge Trail, due to their efforts to produce and distribute beer to bars, groceries, etc. on the east coast. They have a tremendous facility where they've repurposed Crozet's old "factory" that formerly housed Morton's/Del Monte/ ConAgra and they will take you on an informative tour. Recently remodeled into more of a Brew Pub, they've used glass garage doors to retain the old factory charm, but added repurposed wood bars, open garage doors for windows, an outdoor area with corn hole and frequent food trucks, and even menus from local restaurants that will deliver. This is my favorite beer on the Brew Ridge Trail. DEFINITELY bring a growler and start using their growler club cards!

Starr Hill was our first stop on a recent trip down the Brew Ridge Trail. We got there just as it opened on a Sunday and there was already a line of people streaming in the door. We tried the one of their 2 predetermined flights, and found several we really enjoyed. They had one beer that we didn't care for at all and I can't remember which one it was, but the Dark Starr Stout was great and the Little Red Roostarrr was amazing! We filled a growler with that one for the road. The service at the bar was just ok. The bartenders didn't have much to say about the beers, and I like information about what I'm drinking. All in all it was an enjoyable stop.

I came to the tasting room with high high hopes. I left disappointed. Beer=good. Ambiance=interesting for craft brew: industrial yet charming. Service. Well it sucked. I had to sit at a not very busy bar for 5-7 minutes before anyone acknowledged I existed, let alone poured me a beer. Both bartenders pretty much completely ignored me. When the hostess switched from greeting to helping pour and tidy up, she got my second beer (which I'd been trying to order for about 5 minutes) after checking with one of the bartenders whom I presume is a manager or at least a shift ABC manager. He said it needed to be fast. Terrible service. I had arrived with the intention to taste a bit and buy some product to take home. I left without the product and intend now to buy a local competitor. I do not recommend until they figure out appropriate customer service.

We enjoy craft beer and try to visit craft and microbreweries every chance we get. The Starr Hill Brewery offered a great tour for free. The tasting room was well designed and comfortable. The beer was great and we brought two six packs home. If you enjoy craft beer breweries, don't miss this tour.

the bar needs help, the beer is good, but the bar tenders have no system, they were constantly taking people's order out of turn and letting some people stand there for what seemed like forever just to get a beer.

We sTopped here yesterday after being at King Family Winery all afternoon. My brother is more the craft beer connoisseur, and he really liked the offerings. You can also have a sampler of 5-6 brews to help you decide what to drink. Vienna Larger was my brothers choice, I had their IPA. We decided to stay outside because it was such a nice day. We were able to play corn hole, relax and enjoy the day. They also had a food truck that had pulled up to the brewery. They had an awesome offering of bar-b-q. Pulled pork, sandwiches, etc... Very tasty. If you want to take a tour check their website for times. If you want to stay inside they have a nice bar, with plenty of flat screen TV's. Or they have two "garage doors" they open when it's nice, and several tables where you can sit and enjoy watching outside, while still being inside. Most breweries are in old buildings and this place is no exception. It's not in a particularly scenic part of town, just off the road. But we were not bothered about that as we enjoyed a peaceful late afternoon outside. So worth a stop if you are out that way.

First off, I am a big Starr Hill beer fan. They make some great beers and that is without question. Since they just opened their "new" tasting room I will be basing my review on that.SH made a pretty big marketing push to advertise their newly renovated tasting room mayeb iw as expecting more but it wasn't all that it was hyped up to be. Again their beers are great. The old "tasting room" wasn't really a room. Rather a bar in the middle of their warehouse with only shelved of merchandise separating that from their operations. The new tasting room is basically in the same spot, just maybe moved a little bit and rotated the bar 45 degrees. The decor is nice but basically added some walls around it to be enclosed. I think it feels more compact. The bar is slightly larger. Their new glass garage style doors are a nice addition along with the outdoor seating. The gravel lot next to the building is still a bit confusing when it's packed with cars but there is parking across the street which is ample.Still just 1 mens and 1 womens bathroom so that can be a little wait if you end up "breaking the seal"Service was my biggest headache. When I came in the past the guys serving at the bar were pretty good. They would service everyone flights and take some time to talk to you about the beers we were tasting. I didn't have a flight this trip by the guy behind the bar was serving up a lot of them. He just wasn't taking time to explain to those who may have never been to SH before a little about their beers. When going to a tasting I would expect some backstory to make the experience better. I want is just after they opened at Noon on Friday and there woudl maybe 6 people there. I sat at the bar expecting the guys to greet me and ask me what I was having but that never came. Maybe he was new and overwhelmed by the 6 others there and pouring flights. gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited....and waited. After 10 minutes I finally spoke up and asked him for what I wanted. of course the beers were good! So, summary of the new tasting room; * feels compact * decorated nicely * tasting menu above the bar still easy to read * glad "garage" roll windows very nice for warm days. * decent outdoor seating * service was lacking * great prices as usual ($5/pint or $8.50 growler fill) * didn't have that "unique touch" for the hype the remodel received.

The tasting and tour at Starr Hill are a great way to spend a few hours. IT is usually crowded on Saturdays, but even so the walk up service is usually pretty quick. The tour is only about 20 minutes, and was informative and fun, especially if you are into brewing. IIRC, you can taste 5 or 6 generous sample of beer, usually a few favorites and some seasonals, and you can buy beer to go as well as lots of Starr Hill merchandise while you are there. They sell chips and some other snacks.

Tasting room located in their production facility...fun selection of beers, many available in most local grocery stores in the area and many have won awards! Tastings and pints!
