There is so much potential here to have a beautiful winery. The view is good. Windows line the front. But the simple decor makes is feel a bit utilitarian. The club area upstairs had but you need to be a club member to enjoy. Balcony needs to be bigger.

The wine is as wonderful as the view from the tasting room. Although the wine selection is limited it reflects the care the owner puts in to the creation of the wines. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the wines in the selection. Located on the side of Lost Mountain the view from the tasting room across the valley is outstanding. The "Virginia Sampler", of local cheeses, bread sausage is well worth the expense. That coupled with a bottle of wine makes for a early supper while you are enjoying the view.

The view out of the front of the tasting room is amazing. The wall is pretty much all glass. However the wines....not so much. They don't have much of a variety, and we really didn't like what we tasted. But worth the stop just to snap a few pictures.

A trip to Delaplane Cellars is one of our favorite weekend jaunts, in every season. The building is superb, with unmatched views of the Crooked Run Valley, which you'll appreciate if you love the countryside. Their wines are always flavorful and poured by experts who know about the local "terroir" and what's happening on the vines. We like to order the Virginia Sampler (platter of various local cheeses and sausage with warm, crusty fresh-baked bread) to enjoy with a full glass of wine chosen during the tasting. We are members here and enjoy it so much that we show it off to everyone who comes to visit us. In warmer weather, you can sit outdoors and appreciate the view and the clean air. Note to prospective patrons: no parties over 6 people, no children and no pets indoors. For us, this is perfection in the Virginia countryside.

We stopped into Deplane Cellars for a tasting on a Saturday afternoon. The tasting room wasn't very crowded when we arrived so it was easy to find a spot at the counter. For a fee of $8 each, we were able to sample five of Delaplane's wines: one white, a rose, two reds, and one dessert wine. All five of the wines were drinkable and I liked the barrel fermented chardonnay. Not too long after we began our tasting, several groups arrived to begin tastings. Once the tasting room became crowded, our server would serve a sample, say a little the wine and then move along to another group Soon, the three ladies working the counter were close to being overwhelmed. After we finished our tasting, we decided to move on to another winery. While some visitors may not like Delaplane's no children or large group policies, I do respect the fact management tries to keep a peaceful atmosphere at the winery. During our tasting, a group arrived with a baby in tow. Although the group was not asked to leave, a server did tell the group they could not have the baby at the tasting counter. While the others in the group tasted, the father walked the baby around the empty area of the tasting room.

Our small group stopped here on the recommendation from another winery. It was very busy. We found the wines sub par. The tasting room and very were very nice, but not enough to make up for the wines.

A beautiful setting for a tasting room -- a large building with a deck set on a hill facing west for a full view of the mountains. The menu for tasting provides a good range of wines produced at the Cellars with a few that come from grapes actually harvested there. Good staff of pourers who are helpful in providing information about the wines themselves as well as the wine industry in Loudoun County. Good wines overall, but still representative of the fact that Virginia wines have not truly come of age. Still worth a visit!

The first time we visited, we were impressed and have been frequent visitors since!We had passed this place many times on the way to other wineries and finally stopped by. So,glad we did, the venue is beautiful with the most breathtaking views of the mountains from the deck that runs the whole length of the front of the building. The place was very busy our first visit and we were concerned about getting good service for a tasting, but we were surprised how tentative and friendly the staff was. At the time, my husband and I were not a fan of the reds and I credit Delaplane Cellars for changing our minds. Their whites are fantastic, but their reds really knock it out of the park! Our friends who always like reds, think their reds a good too.We were so impressed, we joined their club the same day. For club members they have a private room upstairs. The only drawback, is we cannot bring our son(15). They have the no one under 21 policy. Part of me likes this, it makes it very exclusive. Love this place, I highly recommend it.

This was our first winery we stopped at after staying at a nearby in. Beautiful spectacular views, nice staff, nice wines. Very informative and helpful, and small cozy feel. I enjoyed the off the menu tasting wines vs the ones offered to the public and because the staff let me try a few. We bought a few bottles. So thank you very much for that or we would not discovered the bottles we bought! More for couples, or friends, not meant to be commercial or for kids, but very nice!

I have been a customer at Delaplane Cellars for several years. I am also a club member. It is just smart you get complimentary tastings as well as discounts without paying a sign up fee.Jim Dolphin is one of Virginia's very best winemakers. I have been a serious wine drinker for more than thirty years. He makes world class wines. His red blends are my favorite.I enjoy going to Delaplane to enjoy the view, the wine and I appreciate that it is an adult atmosphere. Children do not belong at a winery nor should parents drink and get in the car with children and drive.When adults go to a winery they do not appreciate children running screaming and destroying their time any more than they appreciate spending a lot of money on a great meal to have the same thing happen.I am now a grandmother. When I had a child at home I hired a babysitter when I would go out so that my child and I could enjoy ourselves. There is nothing for a child to do at an adult establishment and they soon act out because of this.Thank God that the owners realize this and have this policy.If you are interested in tasting some of the best wines our state has in a beautiful setting, then visit Delaplane Cellars you will love it.

Best combination of views, atmosphere and wines in the area. Don't let the first impression of the building fool you as you drive up the dirt road, as you'll appreciate the view from the deck overlooking the vineyard and valleys once there. The wine is great, both red and white. The 2013 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay was one of my favorites and I'm a red wine drinker. For red I would recommend the 2011 Cinq3 as a must try. There is also live music some days and a great outside patio also with amazing views.Definitely a winery to spend a little more time at for sure.

4 adult females wandered into Delaplane Cellars just a few minutes before closing time (which we didn't realize and they never said anything to us) and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. We'd been at Barrel Oak earlier in the day, enjoyed it, but we all agreed that we wished we'd have come to Delaplane sooner and been able to spend more time. The view is absolutely amazing. The tasting room is elegant and welcoming. There are no children allowed, so be aware of that. We tasted 4 wines, and for the first time ever at a Virginia winery I enjoyed all 4. LOVED 2, enjoyed 2. Ended up joining their wine club and am looking forward to future events and releases. Wonderful adults-only atmosphere and excellent wine.

I have visited this winery several times a year since it opened about five years ago and have just discovered that it has a TripAdvisor ranking. I am very surprised at the rancorous reviews that I have read here.I keep going back because it is adult friendly, for all the reasons that recent reviewers have found to be negative. I go to have a quiet experience with my wife, to enjoy the gorgeous view, to taste some of the best wines in this part of Virginia, and to sample local cheeses with my wine.The owners have chosen to prohibit children, pets, limousines, and large groups. This is very much in keeping with the other high end wineries in this region and it is something that I very much appreciate and something that keeps me coming back. I love kids and pets both, but when I go out to taste wine, it is to get away from them both for a while. Thank you Delaplane for creating a peaceful, adult environment in which we can enjoy your wines while taking in the phenomenal view from the patio or the tasting room proper.As an aside, I find it unconscionable that adults would take children to wineries where they plan to imbibe and then drive those children after drinking.The rules that the owners have put in place may mean that Delaplane Cellars is a poor choice for certain people. That does not make it a poor winery. On the contrary, in my opinion as a wine professional, the wines have made very good progression over the last five years and Delaplane now ranks in the upper tier of wineries in our area.There are plenty of other wineries within a short drive of Delaplane that welcome children, pets, limousines, bachelorette parties, and all other kinds of things. If that's what you're in to, go there, be happy there. But don't badmouth one of our best wineries because you don't agree with their rules or don't think their rules should apply to you.

I usually take to trip advisor to share places I've enjoyed on vacations or the weekends, but Delaplane Cellars is such a disappointment I have to unfortunately share a negative review. My husband and I have visited this winery on several different occasions and I have been put off each time. We usually enjoy taking our small, well behaved dog to wineries with us, however pets are not allowed at Delaplane. This was a strike against them, but I accepted that this is their policy and continued to return without my dog. However, what really has turned me off of this establishment is after my son was born I was shocked to learn no babies or children are allowed at their business. Really?? I have never heard of children being completely banned from a business before! I have always gotten the impression that Delaplane Cellars was a bit on the snobbish side but I never could figure out why. Yes the views are pretty, but no nicer than any other Delaplane area winery. The wine is average at best. All it seems Delaplane is interested in is hounding guests to join their wine club. As relentlessly as they push this club membership on you, one would suspect they are hurting for business. If that is the case, I would suggest Delaplane tries to keep up with their competitors, nearby Barrel Oak. Barrel Oak heavily markets to the family and pet owners demographic and they are bursting with crowds I've never seen at Delaplane (incidentally they have better wine to begin with too!) By isolating the dog lovers crowd and the young families crowd, I'm not sure who Delaplane is trying to market to. The young 20 something demographic? That doesn't seem accurate for a winery. The older, stuffy crowd that dislikes animals and children? Maybe. And if that describes you, this may be the place for you! But it just doesn't seem like smart business. Sorry Delaplane Cellars, but you have permanently lost returning customers with me, my extended family, my friends and I suspect many others!

This place is such a tragedy. The wine is very good, and the view off the deck is perfect. Unfortunately, I find the service so incomprehensibly poor that I will not return.
