The walking tour highlight the historic homes and churches was great. Easy walking. Also a nice coffee shop at the corner of Middle and High streets.
What it lacks in interesting landscape, it makes up for with a very easy kayak launch. One of the few in Portsmouth. The bathrooms are clean, the parking is plenty..you can get several miles in easily.
A very nice place for bringing your family for a day. Many things to do including a small nine hole golf course. A boat ramp and a host of other things, places for a cook out and many other options. You will not be bored.
This beautiful riverfront park is full of private places to relax and meditate. I am constantly surprised by the lack of people who take advantage of all this park has to offer! If you need a laugh or two, take a chair and sit and watch folks launching and retrieving their boats. Some get it and some never will!
We launch our boat here quite often as the piers are nice but the ramps have become filled in with sand. The City needs to clear this out ASAP. They also have a separate sailboat/kayak/canoe launching area. There are great picnic areas/shelters/tables, as well as duck and geese ponds, the Pokey Smokey train, and a Curtis Strange 9-hole golf course and driving range. There are also two nice grass putting courses and a playground with lots of swings and the like. Kid and pet friendly, this little gem continues to shine in P-town. Oh, and they also have a small amphitheater there with an Army Band concert this upcoming weekend. This park has been upgraded over the past 20 years and is in great condition.
Extremely family friendly. The park is well maintained, has covered picnic tables for your convenience. Golf course is nice and adds to atmosphere. Great boating ramps and of course, the POKEY SMOKEY railroad..
Portsmouth does have some lovely areas and the City Park is definitely lovely... just ignore the cemetary you have to pass through to get to it.
Wonderful little city park nestled between residential areas, a cemetery and the Elizabeth River. Boat ramps, large picnic and grilling area, and fine children's playground. Cute 'Friendship Garden' with sloping bridge over large duck pond with small garden with benches.First rate nine hole public golf course.A real treasure.
I like the two separate age groups for play areas. Restrooms are nearby and food is available for purchase.
A delightful small recreation area on the water. A bit of something for everyone! We were married at the "Friendship Gardens" bridge-many moons ago:)
