景点点评
The park is a 300 acre Civil War site where 700 confederate men and boys held off an assault by 5000 union cavalry on a bridge of importance to Gen. Lee in Petersburg. The bridge is 600 feet long and was part of the Richmond & Danville railroad supply route. The park has an easy to walk gravel trail to the bridge (and it passes the earthen fort), a 1.2 mile trail through the battlefield, and a .75 mile nature trail with 2 wildlife observation towers over the wetlands, and 2 visitor centers. The day we were there was 101 degrees with a heat index of 110 so I barely made it to the bridge before I felt like I would pass out. We plan to go back on a cooler day to check out the other trails and everything else the park offers.
Trails were excellent. Could observed the river & lake from spots. Staff was warm & friendly. Makes for a nice day trip.
Walking or jogging is the only thing To do. One picnic area.
