We shop at the Farmers' Market every Saturday in-season, particularly for the fresh vegetables and a few baked goods. Definitely worth it.
The market has become better and better every year, with added vendors, crafts, food and music. It is always great to go and buy the fresh vegetables and test taste the different foods that some of the vendors are trying to promote and sell. Crafty folks in our area and it is so enjoyable to look at the talent these folks have. I think the Brick Pizza oven was a big hit and of course all the other foods looked yummy..... it's hard to decide what you want to buy. sweets, dips, bakery items, BBQ, Pizza, made fresh Ham sandwiches.... It is great to visit, nice and friendly folks !!!!
Nice market featuring crafts, fresh local grown produce and farms fresh meats. But the show stopper is that at the markets is a brick oven pizza booth and a BBQ pit. I watched what the vendors at the market were eating and it was the pizza and BBQ. We opted for BBQ, it smelled incredible. We opted for the ribs (4 per order) and we were not disappointed. The sauce was sweet and think, the meat was tender and fell from the bones, the taste was something worth going back for. The town is different from nearby Williamsburg and worth a day trip. On a Saturday morning catch the free ferry across the James river and enjoy a day exploring something new and a little different from Colonial Wburg. A great way to spend a fall day.
Take a quick trip to the coast and enjoy the Smithfield Farmers Market. The people are great and the food is fantastic. Nothing like enjoying fresh baked breads and cakes while you peruse the finds. Simple vegetable tables with local produce and like store prices. Come check this out!Happy Travels!
This farmer's market features fresh seasonal veggies, fabulous home baked goods and local crafters. I have visited several times a year for the past five years and note that the market grows larger each time (this time there were 65 vendors). Live music from local artists provides additional charm. The whole community appears to come out in support of the market (many with their children and pets) so there is a festive atmosphere. Not to be missed are the delicious baked goods at the Yummaries booth (delectable homemade pound cakes, cheese biscuits, fruit breads, cookies, jams and much much more), From the Hearth Pizza (using locally sourced ingredients and baked in a portable oven right on the premises), Country Boys BBQ (recommend the smoked brisket and the delicious side dishes) and Mamma Linda's Pasta (freshly made egg noodles in numerous varieties). The farmer's market is often combined with other events occurring in Smithfield so parking is sometimes not available on Main Street. In these cases, it is a good idea to park in a lot on Cedar Street, which is also very convenient to the market. This is an outside market so remember to dress appropriately and bring your reusable shopping bags if you have them. Very nice public bathrooms are located less than a block away on Main Street.
You can find the best local foodstuffs and gifts for everybody and anybody you know, right in historic downtown Smithfield!
I go here several times throughout the spring, summer and fall, mostly for produce. Great selection, lots of activity. Equal parts produce and handmade items. Yummaries baked goods are great as are the treats from the Greek bakery (can't remember the name)!
Large selection of not only food, but crafts, much more like he set up at a fair as far as the food you can eat there, everything there was nice quality and reasonably priced. Right off main street opens at 9, shops open at 10.
If your interested in an excursion to a small town with a great history, spectacular water views and rustic main street combined with fresh product, Smithfield VA is your town. A quick stop will score you some fresh produce, a smile and a great day for summer as we close on the warmer months of the year. There are plenty of historical sites around but without the bustle of tons of tourists. There were even streets lined with antiques cars and town pride as you enjoy a great day in the heart of one of the oldest settlements in America. If your an hour or less away, this is a no-brainer for your next excursion this coming weekend. As another option, the Olden Days festival is the last weekend (29 June) in Smithfield. That will bring in tons of activities for kids as well. You will like this little town.
Awesome Market! Lots of fresh produce, flowers, crafts and more... Also Country Boy's BBQ of Windsor, Va sells their awesome BBQ there!
Living just 3 miles from the little town of Smithfield I go there often. Saturday is a great day to take in so much. I really enjoy going to the Smithfield Farmers Market from 9 to 12 on Saturdays from May to Nov. This market has everything from baked goods (Bread to pastries),crops fresh out of the fields to arts and crafts. There is hand made jewelry, beautiful wooden goods, decorative garden items, hand made quilts and children's items, plants, honey and kettle corn stirred right in front of you. The local SPCA is there so you can adopt a pet and some booths even have chickens for sale. There is refreshments and music done by locals (usually guitar groups etc.) This is right in the heart of town in a parking lot behind a bank. Plenty of parking and you can walk the downtown and take in shops, restaurants, antique stores, Isle of Wight museum, Christmas shop or just enjoy the many Victorian and period homes through this seaport town. The market is great and I always come away with something! Pets welcomed on leash.
Enjoy fresh seasonal produce, ready-made foods & beverages, and homemade gifts from Greater Smithfield. Dogs are welcome on leash and this very-well attended Market is a gem in the region.
Thank you for visiting the Smithfield Farmers Market! We're sorry the market wasn't as big as you would like it. We typically have about 35 vendors each Saturday -- and sometimes up to 50 for our big markets. I'm not sure what day you visited, but on bad weather days (or days when rain is predicted), some of our vendors have to stay at home because the weather will ruin their products. We usually have produce, baked goods, meats, cheeses, eggs, soaps, beauty products, pet products, hand-crafted items, and more -- along with live music. We hope you come back to visit if you are ever back in our area!
