My family and I were on our way to Colorado when we hear about this riding stable. We decided to check it out. Let me tell you, it was beautiful and awe striking. The horses were obedient and the tour guides entertained us with stories of porcupines and the history of the stables. I highly recommend this for teenagers.
I had always wanted to stop in Palo Duro, on our many trips to and from Colorado. Amarillo had been merely a stopping point. No more! We had the most enjoyable ride with Jesse and his "gang". Everyone from the 5 year olds, to this granny, had a wonderful time. The horses were matched to the riders ability...or lack of. I would recommend reservations, especially if you have a big group. Amarillo is now our stopping point for a different reason...we'll be riding and staying with Jesse and his family, as soon as the cabins are completed!
We absolutely loved Palo Duro Riding Stables. Jesse and Katie were both professional, entertaining, and pleasant. We had a slight mix-up with our reservation, but Jesse made up for it and we still got our ride in, so it was no big deal. The horses were beautiful and well taken care of. While this is a "tourist attraction" it has an authenticity that are lacking from other similar places because Jesse actually lives on the trail and has a genuine love for both the canyon and his horses. We HIGHLY recommend!
we went with this horse co. Vs the one coordinated with the state park. Jesse and his crew were so awesome with our family! He and his young but knowledgable staff gave us the perfect tour of his family land and its history. He made sure we got pictures on the horses and matched us all perfectly to the personality of the horse. I have recommended them many times and when we go back that way, we plan to take a tour again. Jesse is a good family man who knows the value of family time.
First time rider. From beginning to end a dream come true. Rode on the trail with what felt like the entire family from the beautiful little daughter to the hard working dogs. Trail was great and all the horses are loving. Can't wait to return with family!
Joey our guide was informitave and very friendly he really cared about my family feeling comfortable and having a good time the other guides are great to best trails and horses around
We traveled from Shreveport, LA based on a friends personal recommendation and we were NOT disappointed! This family owned and operated business is top notch on all levels. We were treated like old family friends from the time we arrived to the time we reached our car. We have riders of varying experience levels within my family and there was a horse to match each of our skills and personalities. This was truly the perfect way to experience Palo Duro Canyon! We recommend Palo Duro Riding Stables to anyone coming to this area and also recommned planning a trip to the canyon just to have this experience. The scenery was beautiful and the views of it were amazing! My family agrees, to include my two teenagers, that this tour beat the scenery of the hiking trails in the park hands down! Check this family out and you won't be disappointed.
First time to go riding with this company and as an experienced rider it was absolutely amazing. Great horses, great staff, great scenery, awesome experience!! Highly recommend for anybody!!
Palo Duro Riding Stables was a first horseback riding experience for our 7 year old daughter and her best friend. I wasn't sure how they'd do riding down into the canyon, but everything was perfect. Everyone we interacted with was kind, knowledgeable, and patient. The ride was beautiful and peaceful, and the girls left their hearts with their horses. I hear about "Red" five or six times a day! I also appreciate that Palo Duro Riding Stables is so affordable, and allows younger children to ride with a parent. Our 3 year old had just as much fun, and thought she was getting the royal treatment by getting to ride with dad. We'll definitely be back!
There were 6 adults in our party with different levels of riding experience (and the 3 guides that went on the ride with us). It seemed like they put some thought into pairing each horse with each rider. The horses they picked for us were all very gentle and sweet, but not old and worn out like some trail-riding places use. It was wonderful to have a guide at the front, middle and back of our group. They gave us clear simple instructions on how to sit in the saddle on the steep climb down and back up from the Canyon. They all had interesting stories, history of the Canyon as well as personal stories of how much they love the job they get to do every day. We had the perfect day for our ride and I was surprised to learn that they are open year-round. We will definitely return for another ride in the future.
As you read all the reviews, you must start to wonder, "can they really please all those people?" The answer is decidedly YES! When you have the combination of the Sorenson's rich family heritage and love of their canyon, wonderful scenery, well cared for and clearly happy, healthy and loved horses that are trained for all levels of riders, and guides like Jesse Sorenson and his best pal Joey, it all adds up to a "best memory of a lifetime" kind of experience.I'm "Born & Raised Texan" who rode horses often, back in my youth, and my husband, Jeff, is a transplanted New Yorker who loves Gunsmoke re-runs and has only been on a pony in The Bronx Zoo as a small boy! He has some disability on his left side from a past stroke, as well, so I was a bit concerned about his first real horseback ride. It has been a wish of ours for a long time to get Jeff on a horse and we are certain that we chose the very best place to fulfill that dream at Palo Duro Riding Stables. We were blessed to have Jesse and Joey to ourselves on a Wed. afternoon. They took great care to make us both comfortable and feel safe. Stormy was a fantastic match for Jeff and Sissy took good care of a gal that has been out of the saddle for a long time. The ride was worth every penny and much more, in our opinion and we feel convinced that this is a far better time than we would have had at the stables inside the park.Jesse Sorenson, his wife and Joey are exceptional people and the great stories they have about the legacy and history of their canyon and the love for what they do there is priceless. Thank God for people like you who know the importance of their heritage and don't sell-out such a treasure to those who would turn it into another subdivision scar on the natural beauty of the canyonland. We believe in you! We will be back soon, God willing!
We visited the stables with 2 children, ages 8 & 12. It doesn't look like much when you drive up but don't be fooled, it is awesome. Jesse told us a little history of himself and the stables and it didn't take long to figure out that it is his life. He grew up on the land with the canyon as his back yard and still lives on site. The other guide, Joey, grew up with Jesse and still lives on site as well. It was great having 2 guides, one in front and one in back, so all people in the group could hear their stories and explanations. The initial downhill into the canyon looks scary, but the horses are great and take it slow. The animals all look extremely healthy and well taken care of. There are generations of horses in the group, and they take time to pair you with the appropriate horse for your ability and personality. About half way through there is a spot for a great photo op which the guys will take for you and your group. If they start renting out their cabins again I guarantee we will make a point to spend a weekend in their canyon. My wife, kids, and I all had a great time and will be back!
We did a road trip from Chicago to LA and despite everything we did along our travels, when people as us what our favourite part was we tell them it was this! It really was an unforgettable experience.Neither of us have even been on a horse before but we were made to feel safe by Jesse and all the other guys. All the staff were great, and had loads of stories to tell and interesting facts about the ranch, I wish we could have spent a few days there.I would recommend this to anybody who is in the area and I hope we can go back one day.
Genuinely nice, friendly guides that truly want you to enjoy your ride! They take the time to pair you up with the right horse (based on your riding experience). They interact with you while you're riding. Well mannered horses and the scenery is Beautiful! This is trail walking at it's Best!Enjoy this before or after touring the canyon. Very, very, very reasonable rates! Call to make reservations. I recommend Palo Duro Riding Stables to all! - Age 53, Female, from Orlando, FL
Enjoyable ride in a great setting. Jesse, Joey & Katie were friendly and helpful. Great to see Jesse keep up the tradition his father established. Highly recommended.
